Hey All,

I got a letter from Health Visitor this morning asking me to attend a course of 6 week ante-natal classes and also wanting to arrange a home visit. I'm definitely going to go to the classes cos they luckily fall on Wednesdays when I'm not at Uni, but I'm just wondering what's going to be discussed etc when she comes to the house (I've arranged for her to come on Friday).

I do vaguely remember having a home visit when I was pregnant with Jess, but I'm sure it was the Midwife who came and I guess in eight years things may have changed a little LOL.

What sort of stuff do yous all will the HV be talking to me about? Is their anything aside from my notes that I need to have handy for her to see? I'm rushing round like a looney doing all the house work now; would hate for her to ask to use the loo and to have to stride over DD's pants and socks from yesterday, on the bathroom floor on her way

lol - erm from what i can remember...your midwife hands you over to the health visitor after the first month...the hv pitches up...does weighing and measuring..asks lots of questions..hows mum..how feeling..talk about jabs and such like..

Well thats the only experience really that I had with isla..and instead of her coming out to me all the time i just went down to the baby clinic and did it that way....but yeah i cleaned like a woman possessed before she came out lol

In my area whilst I was PG with eds they were trialing a new system on the HV doing a home visit during pregnancy. I think it was just so you were aware of who she was, and what was avaliable for you in the area.

I had my dd1 and dd2 in Glasgow and didn't get a hv visit. Very rarely saw one. I have been pregnant with dc3 in Liverpool and again have not had a hv visit. I just go to the doctors or hossie to see a mw.

As madwalker said, it is maybe a new thing which is starting in certain areas. It is a good idea so as at least you have met the hv before you have the baby.

I only get a Hv visit after the Mw hands over on the 10th day after baby is born, so wouldn't know what they did at a pregnancy appointment!

She came today and was really nice From what I can gather, the idea is that the HV introduces herself and gives you the low down on what will happen with regard to your baby once she's here. She spent about an hour and half here, filling in forms about all the family details, going through the benefits of breastfeeding, talking about early vaccines, how to reduce the risk of cot death, the liklihood of PND and even as far in front as suitable places to fit fireguards, appropriate use of cupboard locks etc etc. Apparently I won't see her again until Millie-Bump is around 10-14 days old, when the Midwife signs us over, but at least that gives me more time to think about stuff and go through all the leaflets so I'm fully informed on everything, rather than the baby arriving and then the HV giving me appointments for stuff which I don't understand the relevence of.

Thats good that that happens now, my HV never came to visit when I was pg.  Saying that, if she did I wouldnt have gone to see her at all - the words 'chocolate' and 'teapot' come to mind ..........

However, this is a really good idea and Im glad you got something out of it!

That's excellent, the only reason my hv came to see me while I was pg, was because I had little Fred at home! lol I get on great with the hv I have had with these 2, and am looking forward to phoning mine on Monday to let her know taht I have had Fred's referral appointment.  She will be well chuffed!
