There is an american brand of sausages that are gluten free... I will try and find them at our supermaket and let you know.

Yes intially I thought it was a right pain, but now he knows what he can eat, and avoids the food himself. As he hates the way it makes him feel.

For a special treat with the hotdogs KFC french fries are gluten and wheat free.

Well we got round it nicely last night by making homemade burger's instead...

Apparently M&S do a nice gluten free sausage so am going to pop there later and take a look.

I also made some gluten and milk free bread yesterday which is (blowing my own trumpet here) a whole lot better than the bought variety...so much so that my eldest was eating it dry for supper last night.

So the diet officially started yesterday, we were trying her to find what she liked for a couple of days before that. Waiting to see if there's any improvement to her behaviour, will keep you posted.

Thanks got the recipe out of a fabulous book I've borrowed from the library.

It's actually written by a mother and is very child friendly, think its by Tess Lobb if anyone is interested. Titled Scary dairy Wild wheat and coping with E's. I may well have to buy a copy if this works it could quite easily become my bible!

Hi.

My situation is very similar but the opposite way around.  We have the problem's at home but school describe a very different boy.  Only once have I ever been called into school and that  was when he set the fire extinguisher off.

We have been trying to get help with ds since he was 4years old.  The are very, very reluctant to diagnose under the age of 6/7.  we have changed his diet slightly.  Fresh home made food, fresh fruit, similar to what he has had before but more studied ifswim.

We were advised by our consultant not to follow a wheat and dairy free diet yet.

We have recently completed the connors test and are going to be given the findings on Monday.  I was reluctant to go down the medical route, but it got to the point where we couldn't live like this any longer.  I had to seek help for the sake of everyone.

Its heartbreaking, to think there may be something wrong.  You want there to be an explanation but you dont want there to be medical reason if you get me

You'll have to keep us updated on how she's getting on with her dietry changes.

good luck

ARRGH!

Not a good day.

It turn's out that Kira was summoned to the head again yesterday for not joining in in class. She told us she'd had a good day yesterday but I just found a little note in her bag saying sorry to the Head so I quizzed her about it and then got really cross because she'd lied to us.

So diet has had zero effect so far and the poor child is begging to go back on school dinners, she's had sandwiches so far this week so I could regulate what went in and assess any benefit before putting the school kitchen through any upheaval to accomodate things.

Just spoke to dh and he's livid too. That's twice in the last week that we've heard of these episodes but NOT from any member of the school staff, Kira's lovely wee friends ratted her out last wedsnesday to us but no-one at school came to us we had to go in and find someone to talk to. I really feel they are just NOT helping.

Thinking of talking to one of the school governor's about this tbh, it helps that dh went to school with one of them so we have a way in there. What do you think? I don't need to alienate these staff member's but I need more communication. How can we possibly follow up at home on issues if we're unaware of them?

School nurse come's tomorrow lunch which will be fun as I've another night shift to pull in tonight....will let you know how it pans out.

So far on day 4 diet has acheived zilch but still early days I suppose.

And I'm going to stop abusing my poor keyboard now and go serve dinner

Thanks for listening

Kate

Dont feel to down im sure it takes a couple of weeks with a diet change to notice the difference, keep going and hopfully you will see the results you want to.

Also are you sure theschool arent being over sensitive with her as i remember from school when a child has a bad name they seem to get the blame for everything and anything small they do is blown all out of proportion.

big hugs to you all xxx

I was thinking along the same lines as bopbop, once a school give a child a name its easier to always blame that child rather than look for the real cause, i am not saying that she is not mis-behaving but may not be responsible for all of it, also other children can make certain behaviours worse too as they expect that child to do silly or naughty things and then the other child will do these things to please their friends.

The food side of things takes a little while too, hth's

I agree with you both, she has certainly acquired a label.

And that's nigh on impossible to shift now it's here.

Oh well, wait and see whether this school nurse has anything further to suggest tomorrow...oh hang on it's later today she's coming!

Your support is greatly appreciated

Kate
