I have no idea what I've done, if anything, but I have no sound. I dont know if I've ever had sound on this computer, because for its first 6 months here I couldn't get my wireless connection working so it was never used.
Ive plugged the speakers in (correctly - they're colour co-ordinated lol and I tried changing the sockets incase), no sound. I thought maybe it was the speakers (before checking the settings - dizzy alert) so I went out and bought new speakers. Ive wired them in and plugged them in, still no sound.
I went through control panel - video and audio thing and it had lots of things listen for sound and video. I went through the system> hardware device mamager bit and followed a trouble shoot help window, but still no sound.
Under device manager, sound I have
- Audio codecs
- Avance AC97 audio
- Legacy Audio Drivers
- Legacy Video capture devices
- Media control devices
- MPU-401 compatible MIDI device
- Standard game port
- Video Codecs
I have no idea what any of these are.. but are any of them to do with my sound?
I also went through Start > programmes > accessories> entertainment > volume control to see if the speakers were muted (lol this was the last thing I tried.. derrr...) and I get this error message (no volume control is displayed);
There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click printers and other hardware, and then click add hardware. This programme will now close.
I clicked 'add hardware' and I got the wizard wanting a disc so that was no use. I have a Real Player installed and that says everything is working fine. All those sound devices I listed claim to be working properly... so where's my problem? And honestly, the speakers are plugged in properly pmsl
