hi Have been recommended by the GP to go to antenatal aqua aerobics, with all the BP and other problems she said it was a good way to relax and keep up some exercise.  I have just phoned all the swimming pools in Leicestershire (there are 6) and the only one that does the classes is closed until middle of Feb!!  Arrgghh why is nothing simple?

Don't really want to join a private gym, but if anyone has any ideas or is loca to Leciestershire and has any other suggestions then please let me know, I would be really grateful.

Cheers

Helen x

Urm sorry hun i have no idea now what to suggest.... may be worth mentioning to your gp next time you go thanks for suggesting this but they don't run here any other suggestions??

See if he/she can think of anything.... I think it's sad that there are no classes being held in your area. If nnot what about your mw? She might know of somewhere.

Persevere hun..... did any of the centres offer any suggestions as to where might hold them ?

Good luck hunting.

Oh I hope you find a class. I went when having all three of mine and I
loved it. It's nice to meet other pregnant ladies and not feel self
conscious in a swim suit. I always felt refreshed after going.
Good luck finding a class.

p.s I'm in Scotland so can't help with your location.

Hi Helen.

A friend of mine did aqua natal at the Greenbank Leisure Centre in Swadlincote. I don't know where you are in Leicester, but I'd guess its about a 50-60 min drive to Swad - down the A50/A511 through Coalville and then the Ashby by pass. I don't know if the classes are still on, but if you look at their website HERE on the pool timetable, there is an aqua natal session showing for Thursdays from 1-2pm.

Are there really only 6 swimming pools in Leicestershire? Good grief! I live in sunny Ibstock and I've looked at Ashby, Whitwick (Hermitage) and the community college's pool and there isn't anything shown. That said, Ibstock pool did used to run an aqua natal class, but I only found out after my daugher was born! Grrrrrr!

There is another website that might be of use HERE, although this doesn't list any classes near Leicester. Did you have higher/raised blood pressure before pregnancy or have you been told you have
Pregnancy Induced Hypertension? In the FAQ on this site, she says that you'd need to check with the course instructor before joining if you did have either of these. I had Pregnancy Induced Hypertension with my daughter and was told not to swim, but then this was much later into my pregnancy (at about 33 weeks) so it might not be so relevant.

Good luck!

Thanks Dizie for you pointers, my midwife did say it was ok to swim but probably best to wait until my investigations are over (hopefully soon!).  The high BP was picked up at the booking visit so no one is sure if it is pregnancy related or if I had it anyway!

I think there are more than six pools in Leicestershire, I was looking at ones within about a 40 minute drive from me in the city centre!  Esp seeing as most classes  if they happen at all seem to be during the day which is not great when I am finally able to return to work.

Am at the hypertension antenatal clinic tomorrow so will ask amidwife if they have any info whilst I am there.

Cheers all

H x
