I usually leave the little ones to cry a bit at night.  Bless their hearts it's not longer than 5-10 mins usually, however I heard a different tone in Winston's cry, so went up straight away, he had pulled the mattress away from the top end of the cot, and managed to wedge his hand in between the metal wires that holds his mattress in place.  I'm concerned as I haven't had a child that has ever done this, but his hand was stuck, and with his weight behind the mattress he couldn't shift it.  Anyone have any ideas how to prevent this happening again.  I can't move him into a bed just yet as their window hasn't been done and his cot blocks it so none of them can get to the windowsill.  We are in the process of getting new windows and putting a gate up at the window, I'm just not sure what to do now, and I have no idea whether it was something Winston did, or Fred helped him with.  With having them not learning when they hurt themselves, I'm just wondering how long before what little of my sanity left will leave me!

Urm it's a difficult one hun..... apart from tucking in a sheet over the springs or an old duvet etc... or a piece of hardboard/mdf thing..... otherwise i'm afraid i'm out of ideas.

I will keep my thinking cap on and see if i can brainstorm anything else.

If anything goes under the mattress it will be on the floor within minutes of bedtime.  I think I'll have to sew a duvet cover over it.  Many thanks Zany!

If you get an old double one or a single one you might be able to wrap it over and under and just secure it with a few stitches.

I just hope it works hun x

Well, I think I have succeeded doing something.  I've wrapped material round the base section, and I have a duvet cover over the mattress and wrapped round the base, lets hope it all holds.  I daren't use string as my two are fantastic at undoing string etc, so much so that the cupboard that had string wound round and knotted is now not secured at all!

Well it worked for a week!  I've literally just been up to find he had both feet stuck in different places! pmsl  I'm now officially at the end of my tether and am struggling.  I now know he needs to be in a bed, but until the window man comes and puts double glazing, and unless I suddenly have a windfall for the extra bits and pieces it's not gonna be a fast or easy transition.  I need a covering for the radiators, and I need to cover the fireplace too.  I can guarantee that Winston or Fred would have no problem trying to climb up the inside of the chimney!

I'm thinking ball and chain, but can't find one small enough! pmsl They said they'd be about 3 weeks, which was 10 days ago, and dh won't phone up after them! If I knew the number I'd phone and ask, it really is starting to wind me up. I had 3 decent sheets of mdf, and dh put them out in the garage (which allows so much water through) and they got ruined! NOw I have to go and get some more, but it's bringing them home that is the problem (as well as financial!) I just wonder if we will ever be totallly childproofed with these 2
