I made a terrible mistake last night.

Mum had been descaling the kettle with part white vinegar and part water yesterday afternoon.  By the time it came to making up the bottles I'd assumed the water was my cooled, boiled water to make up the bottles.

It was only after Tom drank 10mls and that the liquid in the bottle started to separate that Brett asked if the milk was off.  My heart sank as I remembered the white vinegar. I felt so guilty, scared and stupid to say the least.  Tom had dozed off, but it was his bed time anyway and he didn't appear unwell, but I phoned the NHS Direct to ask if we should take him to the doctors.

They took mine and Tom's details and then promised that a nurse would call me back within 3 hours.  She phoned back in half an hour, and said it wasn't a toxic substance and gave me a list of symptons that I should look out for and seek medical attention if they occurred.

I am pleased to say that Tom slept peacefully the whole night through.  He had a very, very smelly nappy that his daddy changed this morning, but he is his usual smiley, giggly self.  Didn't even have to give him Calpol.

I can say that will be using my head and sense of smell a lot more!

Glad it worked out fine, white vinegar is the same as brown vinegar, without the colouring

Thing I don't get is that the little rascal drank it without any reaction.  He just dozed off!!!!!  Even the woman at NHS Direct find that funny.
