well the key stage question has already been answered. I think the main pitfall of having a seperate infant and 'junior' school is just that they change schools more often. I would say it's more beneficial as you know the ages of thekids there are up to 7. I wouldn't mind Fred starting in September if it was only kids up to the age of 7, however the school he will be going to is up to 11, so there isn't a hope I am going to let him go in there early.

We have two ks1 and ks2 schools in our village.

The first which my girls attend is a primary 4-11. The one the opposite end of the road has a an infant school one side of the road and a junior the other. Think it all depends on what actual facilities and physical buildings are available.

Personally if your gut says this is right then go with it. We specifically moved into the area to get our girls into one of these schools......Ofsted reports should be taken with a pinch of salt imo. Our school has had excellent for years, our opinion of it is certainly not excellent. We're actually considering relocating again and school is one of the factors driving that...but thats a whole nother story

If it turns out pants you CAN always move him so try not to worry too much.

My two pennorth again!

K

My primary school was 3-11, but in 3 buildings. There was a nursery building, with its own playground. Then infants, which was 4-7 and that had its own playground, then the junior building which was 7-11 which again had its own playground (actually had 2 :oP pmsl). I think people just give it a different name to make it sound more confusing lol.

Joshua is at a primary school just now, that is run from age 2 1/2-11. They are kept in a separate building (same school) until the September after their 3rd birthday. Then they move into the main building. Lower school (infants) are in one side of the building, upper school (juniors) in the other, although they share the hall. Its not a very big school. They have different classes for the different ages, so they dont come together. They also have a front plyground, and a rear playground. Lower school plays at the front, and upper school play round the back, and grass area. I dont think the little ones are ever mixed with the big ones.

I didnt put an option 2 or 3 when I registered Joshua for school in Bury. Then when I moved here I didnt even have to fill in the forms. I spent a week ringing round, viewing etc then I rang the school he is at and asked if they had any places as I'd like him to attend, and he was accepted over the phone. Went and gave them emergancy contact details and personal details that week, he started the week after lol Im sure max will get his place, and he'll love it!

Just to let you know Max got a place at our first choice school!   It's the one mentioned here.  He's really excited as he already goes there on his 2 hours a day nursery space, and has made lots of friends.  Development wise he's come on in leaps and bounds, and the school itself is among one of the best in the area.

Tom has also been accepted at the Nursery there.  He starts in September.  They'll be one year apart at school, which will make life easier, hopefully.  Poor ole Tom already has Max's hand-me-down uniform hanging up in his wardrobe.

Thanks for the advice, ladies - muchos appreciatos.

Yay nice one Zoe, glad you got where you wanted. They grow up so fast don't they? I have to admit, I've been given some clothes for Fred, and there were half a dozen school jumpers for him, which he will be wearing in September! I think give it a few years and the hand me downs will be the opposite way, just like they were for my older 2.
