As some of you know - Ruthie broke her leg in Belgium on Saturday in a Judo competition. After a horrendous night on Sunday - where Ruthie arrived home around midnight in such awful pain - minus any crutches, as they wouldn't give them any at the hospital in Belgium (so we had to try and carry her to the loo - not easy with my SPD and Gav with his bad back too!) - we spent most of yesterday at hospital in Kings Lynn, then at the med centre on the base!

We saw the consultant, who checked her x-rays. She has broken both bones in the bottom of her left leg. At the moment it's in a good position - we have to take her back next week to get it x-rayed again incase surgery will be required. They put a new cast on - up to top of her thigh again, but at least we have crutches now. She was so brave - and has been since it happened. She spends all her time apologising while we help her, and if she cries with the pain it is silent with tears just running down her face, which I find so upsetting. I wish I could just take the pain for her.

I've ordered a 'Limbo' waterproof protector for her cast this morning - which means she'll be able to go in the shower or bath, which will be great and far easier than trying to wash her and keep the cast dry! It should come tomorrow morning hopefully.

She's got lots of painkillers to take at the moment - she just looks like a wee ghost lying there, she's so white and quite dopey (she starts talking to me, then forgets what she's saying!lol).

So, back to the hospital next Thursday to see what's happening - fingers crossed she won't need surgery.

xxx

Awww big hugs to you all..... it's amazing the inner strength kids have when they are hurt or poorly.....

I hope the bones stay put and start to heal quickly and that surgery isn't needed.

Take care all of you. x

Emma, Ruthie is 11. She's really tall for her age, which makes it even harder to lift her around the place! lol

Got her pain relief back on track again - will be waking her up early tomorrow to top her up, so she doesn't end up in agony like she was this morning.

Been a busy day - amazing how long it takes just getting her up and down to the toilet and things.

Poor Girl. I did this (both bones) 8 years ago...and it was not nice.

What a brave mature girl.

PS Just to let you know she may get cramps...which is just as painful as the actual break...try and get her to wiggly her toes when resting.

I hope she feels better soon.

Oh bless her! Once she has worked out how to use the crutches she should be fine! The stairs are the scariest part to tackle but once she has done it she will be fine! Can she not shuffle on her bum?

I'm sorry i'm being a plonker! I just remembered she has a full leg cast on! Sorry

How long will she have to have this one on for?
