Hi
This is my first time using a forum but I'm hoping it is going to bring some good news to my sore pelvis!

Please, does ANYBODY have a story of their SPD going away permanently?

My quick history of SPD - I only got SPD immediately postnatally. I seem to have the classic problem of a misaligned pelvis and pain in my right sacriolliac joint for years with an assisted delivery and 2 hours in stirrups.
Now 5 months after the birth of my baby I still have pain in my symphysis pubis on a daily basis especially while and after any walking.  I am seeing the pyhsio through the NHS but have requested to be reassessed as the pilates type exercises don't seem to be making any difference.  I have seen a Chiropractor 4 times but wasn't impressed with the results so am about to see an osteopath.
I am desperate to hear some happy stories of peoples SPD being cured, with life returning to normal and what the miracle cure was.  PLEASE tell me that someone in a similar position to me has had their SPD go.

Thanks for any advice and help

Hi hun

Firstly may I welcome you to the site.  I'm sorry to hear you have SPD and I'm sorry but the news I'm going to give you isn’t as positive as it could be.

I'm Tsena (26) mum to 2 boys 6yrs and 22mths. I still have SPD, I'm using crutches still and life is a daily battle as I'm sure you are aware. There are a couple of us who are having a treatment via pain clinics called prolotherapy. This has seen another member (as I'm having my first treatment in march) go from being in a wheelchair and using sticks to get around daily to using her bike again and going salsa dancing. They have given her a very positive prognosis but it’s going to take 2-3yrs of treatment to get to the permanently pain free stage.

The physio and chiropractors you are seeing are they woman’s specialists in pelvic or pregnancy related conditions? Might be worth asking, as the difference in the amount of knowledge is huge. There are a few tips and self help ideas and suggestions in a article which can be found here.

We do have a buddy system if you feel you would like one on one support which is confidential, if you feel this would benefit you, you can click on the link at the bottom of the page.

Again welcome to the site, I look forward to chatting to you again soon. Take care

I am sorry you were misdiagnosed! I had a similar experience, it left me in so much pain.

Good news from my point, now i am hardly ever in pain from SPD and i only get the pain when my fibromyalgia and hypermobility is flaring up! If i didn't have these underlying conditions, i would be totally pain free! So there is hope of a full recovery from this!

If you feel you need more support you could always try out our buddy system by clicking on the link in my signature and requesting a buddy!

I hope you will have a happy ending like me! xxx

I am so sorry you are suffering.

I am the member Zany was talking about. The success story.

My birth story is in the articles section - but briefly I was diagnosed at 20 weeks pregnant, was on crutches immediately and was in a wheelchair from 30 weeks. I was admitted into hospital at 37 weeks on morphine and they tried unsuccessfully to induce. at 38 weeks I had an emergancy C section. The pain went away and I was fine.

4 months later it returned and got worse and worse. I tried acupuncture which gave me some relief but not for long, saw a consultant who told me I needed surgery to ever stand a chance of getting better, tried all sorts of painkillers and physio.

I found a chiropractor who specialised in pregnancy and she got me walking without a stick and doing much better, however I was still far from cured. (I did find it takes a while to get results but they were really good once it started to work) I got a referal to a pain clinic and the consultant I saw there examined me and said I had hypermobility which was why I was suffering so badly with this. He declared my pelvic area to be 'a mess' and I thought 'here we go again'. But he was different. He told me about prolotherapy - injections into the symphysis pubis and sacroiliac joints which help to strengthen and tighten the ligaments.

I have now had 3 treatments and I am a different person. I go 4 monthly for the injections and I get about 2.5 -3 pain free months. I went horseriding on my honeymoon last year, and now regually cycle and have salsa dancing classes. I feel like a new person.

The spd is stil there in the back ground so when the injections wear off it comes back with a vengance but I know it isnt for long. My consultant has told me I have a severe case and it will take a long time to get me 100% but if i keep having the injections the time I am pain free for will increase and increase until I no longer need them.

Good luck and please feel free to ask anything you like.

I'm new here...hello!
I had SPD, diagnosed at 20 weeks, signed off work from 25 weeks and
then crutches, then wheelchair etc... I found both reflexology and
acupuncture helped very much with the pain. I'm posting as I am
feeling a lot better now and my son is just 10 weeks old. Obviously it
could come and go but at the moment I'm pretty good - except for
getting up from sitting (especially on the floor!). So far a success story I
think - but this is only my first baby so who knows shat the future will
bring!
Hope that's a bit helpful...

heres a sucess story

i was diagnosed with spd at 21 weeks. like many of you, i had it BAD. i had crutches but couldnt walk so was bound to the sofa. was signed off work and by christmas 07 was constantly crying with the pain.

then, like a miracle, i woke up about 3 days after new year and little pain!!!

it was as if the spd fairy had been and taken it away.

im 38 weeks now and suffering with a heavy belly and back ache but thankfully, only get tiny twinges in pelvis if ive walked for more than 20 mins. but its nothing compared to what it was. as you all know-it is living hell.

i dont know what happened to make it go but im just thankul it has and i hope everyday that it doesnt come back.

hope this gives a bit of hope to people who have no hope that the dihibiliating condition ever seems to go on its own without extensive therapy.

love to you all and will be back once my little charlie is here.

xxxx ROFL
