Hi ladies, I'm curious. I know all children are different in theoir development, and I'm trying to work out what they should/shouldn't be able to do. As I have had 5 all very different children, I have no idea what they should be doing at what age. Simple things like kicking a ball, catching a ball, when they should be able to tell letters, colours use a proper sentence, you know the stuff you should know but don't really! lol I know you have to take into consideration the fact that all kids are different, more so now that Fred doesn't use more than 2 words in a sentence, and Winston doesn't say any words, just the occasional different sounds, I was just wondering what else I can do to encourage them, even though I spend alot of time with them, I want to be able to help so much more. Fred can actually count, I still haven't worked out how high, as he can be such a monkey and tell you 1 is 2 just for fun. He can tell Grandma 9 different colours, without any problems, and knows what letter starts what words etc. So all in all I am not bothered about his academic behaviour as I know he cottons on fast. It's just the other development I want to keep a track on, as I think he really does need some extra help with that part of it. And as for Winston he will copy Fred even if it means injury to himself! But then he is nowhere near Fred's brightness, I am not saying he isn't bright, he just doesn't communicate with us at the moment, other than laughing or crying (or screaming! lol)

I was also wondering about development at what ages etc as well. Emily will be three in May and can count to at least 10 she sings about 6 nursery rhymes all the way through and knows bits of loads more. As for colours well i keep trying to teach her and she knows a few but struggles to be honest and my little nephew who is 4 months older knows lots of colours but i know they all do things at diffferent times! As for words and letters Vicky i haven't even tried them with her i don't feel shes anywhere near ready for soemthing like that so sounds like your little Fred is a little bright spark bless him - would be interesting to know about other peoples lo's of the same age :)

The reason Fred knows so many letters is that I make my own little pocket books, and I used a couple of sets like snap, and he matches them without a problem. It's lovely to see how well all the lo's are doing and how they are so very different in so many ways. I also did snap with the colours, and although he does get some wrong, you can tell that some he is puzzled about, but others he gives you the wrong answer so that he can ask you to give him the answer! lol
