hey every1, im just 17 and found out i was pregnant at 16 weeks. Im 20 weeks now and i haver been so scared in my life. ive got lots of people to support me at the end but its just THE BIRTH! can any1 pretty please  just give me an example of the pain im going to be going through. thank u soooooo much xxx

Hi hun

Welcome to the site.

It's increadibly hard to discribe the pain as it's slightly different for everyone, due to pain level tolerances.

All i can is it's the most rewarding pain there is as at the end of it you have a wonderful little baby who'll look up to you with wide eyes which will melt your heart and make the pain etc all seem so worth while.

Try not to worry about the pain too much (easy i know as i have had children) but there are lots of different pain relief options available to help you though it. You don't have to suffer, you've got options from water, to gas and air, to epidural.

If you need to know more about the pain relief options there are various articles on this site which will hopefully help you to understand them a little more. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like, no one will think thats a silly or stupid one as we've all been there and have worried about similar things.

We have a buddy system (see button at the bottom of my thread) if you would like one on one support.

Hi and congrats.

I know how you are feeling. I had my first kiddie at 18 and was terrified but it really wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Once you hold the wee bundle in your arms, you soon forget all the pain.

Hun i'm 26, 27 this year and i still don't like going to the docs on my own and often take friends to hosptial appointments etc

It's normal to be pertrified hun, i was it's a scary thought knowing that your having a baby and that it's growing inside of you.... it's normal but on a plus side it shows you worry and care, which are all good traits of being a good mum.

Try not to worry hun, you're not alone. I think it's fair to say that most women (regardless of age) have some apprehentions about the pain of the birth. I'm due to have my second baby today (not that she seems to have realised that and made any attempt to move yet lol) but even though she's my second I'm still twittering about the birth a little as I ended up having a c section with my first so this will (hopefully) be my first natural birth. One thing I have found reassuring is actually gathering as much information about birth/pain relief as I possibly could over the last few weeks. I've joined lots of pregnancy update calendar websites, joined this forum (obviously lol), gone to the ante-natal classes and also invested in a really good book written solely about birth options and pain relief which I've found really helpful. I guess everyones different, but I always feel more condfident about stuff if I actually feel like I have the best idea possible of what going to happen to me and the best way of dealing with it

My best friend (whose DD is now seven) was actually completely terrified at the idea of birth from the first day she found out she was pg. However, despite all her worries, she had a pretty good birth and managed the whole thing with only gas and air and a pethadine shot, and she'd openly admit now that it was nowhere near as bad as she's convinced herself it was going to be.

Just try and relax and enjoy your pregnancy. You're a fair way off the birth anyway, so you've lots of time still to get prepared and discuss all your concerns with your HCP

hi

everyone gets scared babe, i was petrified when i fell pg but forgot all about it and when i went into labour i was excited. it happens gradually and gets worse so you adapt and to be honest you just deal with it without thinking about it. i laboured but ended up having emergency c section at 8 cm so was bit disapointed and can't expain to you what actual birth is like, but i am 20 wks now and scared too.

i have been told its like having a big constipated poo.... lol

but like everyone has said when you hold your little one in your arms it is worth every minute, you will melt. its good to hear you have lots of support its a emotional rollercoster ride pregnancy and becoming a mum.

do you know what your having? and whens your due date must be near mine, im 11th july

Hiya.

My advice would be to talk through all your questions and worries with your midwife to discuss all the avaliable pain relief that is there for you and see which you would like to try.
I found that having a birth plan was really helpful for me as it took away some of the anxiety of the unknown, You can write down everything you would and wouldnt like to be done. It might make you feel more prepared and informed in a way.

Obviously we would all be lying if we said it didn't hurt... but some ladies can cope with no pain relief what so ever, some opt for an epidural or something else inbetween so its completely up to you... and if when it comes to giving birth you need more, you can always try something different if what you choose isnt right for you. 

I had my 1st at 17 too, and i've gone on to have 4 more so it cant be that bad or else we would all just have stuck at 1 lol.
