Please help I'm shattered!

Eds always gets left with a cough following any cold that is difficult to shake at night.

At the moment he has this awful tickly cough which keeps him awake from around 2am to around 5am and therefore keeps DH and I up too. I have tried medised and tyxilyx night cough - buttercup syrup - drinks of water - etc etc and nothing shakes this cough.

Any ideas as to how I can shake it? He does seem to be developing a daytime cough at the moment too which is why it is worse but this has been going on a while. Everytime I take him to the docs they tell me his chest is beautifully clear.

I know I have replied to a post about Eds cough before suggesting asthma, and you did say the docs don't think it is - it's just that Cameron's asthma is mainly a cough. He doesn't wheeze - when he's having an attack, it starts with a cough which gets worse and worse and he struggles to breathe inbetween. His chest is rarely wheezy, unless he has a wee infection.

It's so difficult to diagnose when they are little - it was me who convinced the doctor that that was what Cameron had, and that was only because Becca had it when she was young too, and it took a couple of years for them to decided that's what it was. They then agreed, when I told them all about Cameron, and about how Becca had been, that it was probably asthma, and started him on his inhalers.

Poor you, and wee Eds. Keep going back to the doctors if you are at all concerned with him.

xxx

Ellie is exactly the same following a cold - always gets a cough but never has anything on her chest!  she can sleep thru it tho but it still keeps us awake and if we wake her to give her medicine, she fights with us!

The best one we've used is Baby Meltus - we give it to her when she goes to bed if she was coughing in the night the night before...

I was told to raise her mattress under her head to stop the mucus settling - never worked for Ellie but may for Eds?

If he is coughing while he is sleeping, then your best bet is to take him to the docs. I took my older ones when they were littel, and the doc says you can tell if it needs anything by whether they cough in their sleep. HTH and it all gets cleared soon.

I spent hours sitting in our bathroom when my boys were little with the shower going as the steam helps to calm the cough down a little, just means getting comfy in there!!

Hope Eds feels better soon, so you can get some rest too
