I have been thinking about this for a while. I was wondering if the Depo was contributing to my weight gain, and also dh and I rarely have sex nowadays, due to our conditions and it being far too sore. However, I was thinking about going on the pill or maybe the mini-pill as you never know when we might be up for it!!! (sorry tmi)!!!
I also havent had af since I started on this 3 years ago so I feel that I could do with a bleed and a bit of a clean out tbh.
I'm due to get my next depo this week but I think Im not gonna have this now and go and see the doc instead.

The depo is known for it's properties in making people gain weight, andy's sister was on it and when she started she was a stick insect..her bum gradually grew, followed by her stomach, and now she is no longer that skinny girl we once envied! I was going to have it at one stage but as soon as the gp mentioned weight gain, i said something along the lines of where he can put that...
I think it would be a good idea hun, you said yourself it is rare that you do the deed anyway, so go for the pill or mini pill, at least you will then get a good bleed!

Oh I didnt know you were on Depo.
I may be way off here but bare with me.
When I was on Depo I lost my sex drive completely, ended up on anti depressents as it made me very depressed, and I put on weight - now not all my weight gain can be blamed on Depo as I was unable to exersize due to SPD but I had never in my whole life been over 9st and by the time I came off depo I was 9st 10oz - I was 8st 10oz when I went on it and was on it 6 months.
It takes a long time to get it all out your system - it took a year for all my symptoms to go - but I am now free of it and am on Yasmin which is a type of pill similar to microgynon 30 (but not the same as I fell pg on microgynon and gp assured me it was different so shouldnt happen again.
I was able to come off my anti ds within 3 months of stopping depo.
I do think it would be well worth talking this through with your GP, I know it works for some people but I would never go near depo again!

i agree with madz i would deff not reccomend depo to anyone,i turned into a total misery n moody cow wen i was on it so i think this will be contributing to your weight gain and other conditios,i think youd be much better off going on the pill or something with less side effects, its just a case of finding something that suits you,i went on the evra patch ater stopping the depo and the change in me was so noticable....they dont give this out often though due to its expense but have a word with your gp hun....xxxx

Hiya hun..
My sister was advised by her GP to try depo specifically FOR weight gain.. she was seriously underweight at the time even though she ate like a pig, (it was all seriously unhealthy stuff too- a whole chocolate gateu, bars of chocolate and full fat drinks by the dozen and all on a daily basis).. She'd tried all sorts to put it on and within six months of the depo, you could really see a difference. Initially she looked great (because she need 'padding up') but once she was on it for about 2yrs I'd say she was then actually 'overweight'. She hasn't taken it now for a couple of years but the weight just won;t shift and apparently that's because it's classed as 'hormonal' weight which is the most difficult to lose..

I would have a chat with your GP about different forms of contraception if you think it might be contributing to weight gain or depression. I'm on the Depo, but i haven't noticed any weight gain or any other unwanted side effects personally, but each type of contraception reacts differently with each individual, so there's no harm in seeing what else is avaliable.
I do agree with you about the period part though, my dh once asked what happens to the blood that should be appearing, but doesn't? Oh, please lol It might do you good to just have a short break from taking anything, just for a month, and then decide on something else more suitable for you. But chat with your doc, and see what they suggest. x-x-x

Thanks everyone, the more i think about it, the more I want to stop it. In fact, because sex is just a passing thought at the moment, we are just going to use condoms.
I will go and see the doc next week (I also noticed a muckle big box of condoms in her cupboard )
Thats it - mind made up!!! Better start gettin stocked up for AF!!!!!

hi.. i missed you. im thinking the same to you nikki...i went to my doctors to have a pelvic exam and went off two other birthcontrols 2 months ago. I think all chemicals or hormones are gonna make our bodies go into an unnatural phase..especially i had the depression and bleeding as well. But i went into the drs to tell him i refuse to go onto another pill or method and they thought i m pregnant since not having a period since end of january..i said nope...sticking with condoms, which collects dust as i speak LOL. good luck nikki and let me know if you do find another method. know whats funny..im on a intravaginal gel medication for an infection and that buys me a week with no sex and im kinda ashamed but liking that LOL.
