Pregnant actress Angelina Jolie has developed a form of diabetes which affects mums-to-be, according to U.S. reports.

The Tomb Raider star is reportedly suffering from such painful swelling in her legs and feet that she has to wear shoes half a size bigger than usual.

U.S. magazine Star claims the 32-year-old is finding her second pregnancy "difficult".

A source tells the publication, "Angie has gestational diabetes. She found out about a month ago and has been trying to keep it under wraps.

"She's sick and irritable and feels heavy and weak. She's been seeing a nutritionist about it."

Gestational diabetes develops in a small proportion of pregnant women and results in high blood-sugar levels. It is usually treated with diet and exercise and is reversible but sufferers run the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes as a consequence.

Jolie - who is expecting her second biological child with partner Brad Pitt - already has a daughter, Shiloh, and three adopted kids, Maddox, Pax Thien and Zahara

I didn't even know she was pregnant.

My mum had gesticial (sp?) diabetes with me. She was kept in hospital 2 months prior to giving birth and hated it. She's now in her 50s and has diabetes which is controlled by tablets.

All my family on my mother's side are diabetics. Fortunately both me and my sister (who is currently pregnant) have escaped having gesticial diabetes.

I had this when I was pregnant with Owen.

My gestational diabetes was diet controlled, meant I was miserable with not eating chocolate but I ate little and often and lost weight. I had to take my blood sugars before every meal and made sure I didn't eat lots of carbs/sugar. The other ladies at my clinic had to be insulin controlled and it meant they had to be monitored during labour and their babies sugars had to be tested once born.

The bonus for me was that I was growth scanned regularly and got to see Owen lots before he was born. He was 7lb 12oz when he arrived.

It disappeared as soon as Owen was born. When I have my next child it will return earlier.
