Interesting article, consumer pressure must be starting to work then.  If people didn't buy products which contain aspartame then no one would sell it eventually.  I still believe it's the quantity that it is consumed in that causes the problem.  If it was only in small amounts in few types of foods then it wouldn't be so bad, it's the fact it's in just about everything even foods that aren't diet foods so you are exposing yourself and your children to large amounts.  Quite possibly it does turn to methanol in the stomach as some fruits do but, does that mean we should stop eating fruit so we can partake of aspartame...  Surely it's better to eat fruit and then not overly expose yourself by not drinking or eating aspartame containing foods.  I am sure the japenese company is up in arms but at the end of the day it's all about money as usual and they really don't care about your health as long as you line their pockets.

I still find it really hard to find squash that doesn't contain aspartame. As we have a tiny town there is only 2 supermarkets and one is Tesco, their own brand contains it, even the whole stuff not the no added sugar! The only one we have found so far locally is Vimto and not the no added sugar version. So we are on the Vimto and not buying any others that contain it! We refuse to buy diet coke and diet pepsi, also the max and zero, so i am on the Vimto or water!

I haven't checked food labels for it, which i am going to do from now on, and i have told my family NOT to give my kids this sweetner and they are having to make better choices too!

TBH Although i thought cutting diet coke out of my life would be hard, i actually don't miss it! I am saving money by not buying it too!

I hope together we can all make a big impact on the way our food and drink is produced!
