I have a 2 year old little boy Leon & have just had a baby girl Ivy on dec /13 /07. For the last 2 months i have been so tired and having really bad headachs [doctor has done full blood test all normal],And i have been very irritable, agresive,And really over the top about my son hurting himself. Like yesturday we went to one of thoses soft play places,The whole way there i keep thinking [in my head not out loud] say he falls of hits his head,Say another child hurts him,I also do not like being around a lot of people. But then at the same time i find myself being really short temperd with my son,And angery with him. Then i have such guilt about being this way towards him. My hubby is really good,But he said to me at the weekend i am not myself. I know this is ture,I hate myself at the moment. Is this pnd. I have no problems with Ivy we have bonded fine everything is normal with her. I cant understand why i am like this with Leon. Really need some advice and help.

Hi there kate. My names maddy and my son Edward is nearly 3.

Your symptoms do sound like those of depression. Depression affects different people in different ways, it may be that you have deleloped PND from the birth of Ivy and this has manifested itself in the way you are reacting to Leon.

Personally I can sympathise. I have suffered from depression in the past but didnt get PND, however recently I have been on very strong pain medication for a condition I have and this has made me very ittitable and I have taken it out on my son. I have shouted at my son over the smallest of things. I was wondering if u have been on any new medication, or a new contraceptive, since having Ivy?

Also how much support do you get? It must be very hard having 2 young children. I think it would definately be worth speaking to your GP and considering anti d's if the doctor agrees.

Good luck.

Has your HV not mentioned PND for you? It certainly sounds like PND to me and I'm glad you are seeing your GP. Good luck.

I know when I had PND, I came across well to the outside world but on the inside I was beating myself up. I never felt good enough for my children or my husband, then these feelings made me sad and angry.

Another symptom I had was CONSTANT worry and over protectiveness towards everyone I loved. This causing me more stress, this making me more sad and even more angrier. I think what it came down to was a lack of control. Lack of trust of everyone and your environment is another symptom

It sounds like you are taking control by seeing your GP

Don't be afraid of depression...it really is something that can be worked through and you will feel like your old self again.

Take Care

Hi hun.

I've been through PND twice and live with the battle of depression. Had it on/off since I was 19(am now nearly 35). It gets easier and you are doing all the right things so far. The hardest bit is admitting there is a problem in the first place so well done to you on that one, xxx.
