Max loved it!

He had his first football session on Monday, straight after nursery.  There were 12 lads in the team, aged between 4 (Max was the youngest) and 6.

Firstly, they were made to run around the pitch, then they had various football controlling exercises like dribbling the ball around the cones, working as a team doing relay stylee races, running different speeds and lengths etc.  It must've been hard work 'cause I was exhausted just watching them.

This went on for a good 45 mins, and bless him Maxi got a little muddled with some of the exercises and upset, but I'd reassured him it didn't matter.  He said he didn't 'get it'. I gave him a choice: it was up to him whether he stayed til the end or we left.  I explained mummy would be happy with whatever he decided to do.  Max decided to stay.  It was bloomin cold too, I'd made a mental note to myself to buy a thick thermal coat especially for football!

I was so proud that he didn't give up.  Half way through he began to get bored and wanted to play football, but his perseverance was rewarded with a match.

And he managed to get a few wee tackles in, and there's me beaming, thinking 'that's my lad, that is'.  By the end of the hour he'd made new friends, and was buzzing.  It was a really nice atmosphere, friendly.  The coach was full of praise, and some parents remarked on how confident he was, especially since it was all new to him.

I was well chuffed that he enjoyed it.  I guess I'll give it a few more sessions to ensure that Max is committed then I'll think about investing in a pair of footie boots, he'd like that.
