I have just been sorting out my son's school bag, checking for letters and making sure it's ready for monday and i found a letter screwed up in the bottom corner (good thing i checked i'm thinking).... well low and behold his class teachers are striking and this takes place on Thursday 24th April.....

I have no objection to teachers striking, but i know this is probably me being blinkered, but what happens to the circulum that they are teaching? if they miss a day do they work the kids harder to catch up?? Also why not make it a monday or friday? Thursday is the day my son does his reading and it seems unfair that he will have the same book for longer. I know it's to cause disruption etc and i'm greatful for the notice but....

It's just wierd as only certain classes are on strike yr 2,4 and 6 all the other classes are business as normal....all very confusing!

Is anyone else having school strikes?

As far as i'm aware, everythings normal here still.. but saying that i haven't yet checked my kids folder's, and their school does seem to be lacking good comunication just recently.. so i'd better go and check that right now lol
But my sister is at college, only does Wed, Thurs and Fridays, and yes, they have a strike on Thursday too.

Its a union thing chica...the teachers that are members of a certain union are all on strike that day.  Tasja and islas school are shut for the day as all the teachers in on that day are of a certain union.

It is a union thing as Steph says.  It was in the news about 2 weeks ago that there was going to be a national strike on the 24th April.

Less than 40% of the union members voted towards a strike... seems its not even wanted by most and yet it still goes ahead. I dont think Joshua's school is effected, Ive not heard anything. I heard on the grapevine not many schools/teachers use the union NUTS, but I dont know how true that is, the school I used to work at didnt I remember that lol

lol i must be going mad! the only news i see is via madmums. i frequently miss the news on tv etc. Think i might have to make more effort to get some tv time!

I'm glad it's not just my school but i will say i didn't realise there are so many unions out there.

I really do seem to be living in my own little bubble lol

Yes. My college where I'm studying is affected as our tutor on Thursdays is a NUT member. However she said as its not all her department our coursework deadline still stands. I've yet to find out whether I'm supposed to turn up or not. Hopefully I'll submit my coursework tomorrow then I might get a day off too.

Yes, both Harrison's school is closed and Louis' pre school. The pre school is closing because all the staff will be off because of their children not being in school.

Both of mine will be off the following Thursday too as the school and pre school are being used as a polling station, then they have the may bank holiday.

I hate this time of year, I get confused as to when they are in and when they are off.
