last night Louis started with a temp and said his head hurt.  I gave his some calpol and put his to bed, he slept fine and got up as usual this morning.

He's been rather quiet today, still has a temp which i've just taken its 38.6oC but he's developed an all over body rash, its on his face, legs, torso, hands and feet.  Its definatly not chickenpox as he has this again only 4 weeks ago.  Its not raised, his face is blotchy but his body rash is like pin pricks.  he's eating and drinking as normal but when he opened his mouth he has a few tiny purple pin like marks at the back of his throat, none of his glands are up.

Hes sat on the floor with a jigsaw as i type.

Do you think it may be just a viral? I dont want to rush him to the docs as apart from the temp he doesnt seem that unwell....

any ideas

yep, it disappears thats why i've not taken him to be seen.

  I dont want to sound awful for not taking him, but i hate running to the gp at the first sign of a snotty nose.  I'm guessing they will say its just a viral inf, hence why ive not rang.

It sounds to me like slapped cheek virus, this starts with flu like syptoms then a rash appears that looks like they have been slapped across the face and can also appear all over body, its very strange can come and go for a few weeks, and i think im right in sayng its related to chicken pox. my eldest 2 got it after my youngest 2 had chicken pox last year i think its most common in spring too. very contagious before the rash appears but once it appears its not so you have no idea. but the only people it dangerous for is pg women

My friends little girl had slapped cheek 6 weeks ago, but we havent had much contact with her.  He hasnt had any flu like symptoms either.

I rang nhs direct have to take him to the out of hours but the appointment isnt until 10.30 pm tonight, but i cant go as df is on nights and im not dragging two children out at that time on a saturday night esp when I cant drive yet.

will see how he goes he's in bed now fast asleep.

The symptoms can vary from child to child and some dont get any symptoms at all just the rash and the rash can also vary as my ds was covered and my dd just looked like a English rose with rosy cheeks, its just a very weird virus and i think it can lay dormant for quite a while.

Hope you get him sorted and he is feeling better soon and its just something simple to sort out, I hate it when the kids are out of sorts, you never know what to do for the best xxx

Thanks for that, how long does the rash usually last (if it is slapped cheek) do they need antibiotics?

I really cant get him to that appointment tonight so i'll have to ring again in the morning
