YUCK.

We think we have fleas in our house.  All of us (bar the two babies) have wee red bites on our legs.  We've spent the last two days fumigating the house and steam cleaning everything.  We don't even have a pet- so goodness knows where they've come from.  Also we spent £70 today sending all our cushions, pillows, quilts and the likes to the local laundrette.  Ughhhhhhhhhhhh....

Very unusual get flea infestation with no pets, especially as you have lived there for a while, are you certain it's Flea bites?

Aye- bloomin' cheers for your new avatar- was swiping the screen there.

Yup- I've seen a couple of wee flat black jumpy things, one on a pair of Emilie's trousers and one on a cuddly toy.

Don't want to worry you but maybe you have Rats Rodents, something to look out for?

Where?

Wouldn't there be signs of them, like droppings or the likes?  We've pulled the house apart from top to bottom and not noticed anything- we live in the middle of a housing estate, not in the countryside, too- but come to think of it, it is bloomn' cat central around here with loads of cats coming into our garden and using it as a toilet. Wonder if that can cause it?

I seriously doubt it's Rats, I was just pulling your leg, I don't think the fleas from the specie of rat we have today (brown rat?) can survive on humans, same as dog fleas, might be wrong though as I am not expert

They are probably cat fleas and either you have regular cat(s) visitors in your garden and you've brought them into the house that way or you've had a visitor in the house that has brought them with them.

I know that they can stay dormant in the carpet from previous occupiers but I think it's only for a year at most and as you've lived there for a while and not had issues before, then that rules that one out, unless you had a Cat or Pet last Summer at the house?

hun we had a smiliar issue, where next door (who were dirty beggars to say the least) had had fleas on their pet and they came thru to our house THRU THE SKIRTING BOARDS They were everywhere and it took me AGES to get rid of them. You must Vacuum everywhere at least twice a day (including mattress's. sofa's, chairs, stairs etc etc) and this will cause vibrations that also cause dormant eggs to hurry and hatch....sadly I think there is a 7 week breeding cycle for fleas so you are going to hav to meticulously careful for a while. Hope you get it sorted xx

When i was in wales, canis (my doggy) got the little blighters.. we used martins smoke bombs which you can get from pets at home. one can does one room, and they are around £10 for a pack of 2 can's.. but they really do work. you set them off and leave the house for 2 hours, then open some windows and leave again for a hour.. job done.

We never had any problems after that. Beats steam cleaning everywhere.
