I've just ordered some more ice lolly making sets for the kids now this nice weather is here, but i normally just use fruit juice, sometimes with pieces of fruit in them too.
I suppose they would work using semi-skimmed milk, although when i've froze milk before it does tend to make it taste really watery!
You could even use different flavoured milkshake powders to give it more taste.

Do you like bananas? You can make low Gi banana smoothies using skimmed milk, then maybe freeze them onto sticks?

You can also use low fat natural yoghurt with low gi fruits.

Buy using green light foods with yellow/red light foods you reduce the GI of the higher GI foods (if that makes sense lol) Like if you want a strawberry yoghurt, use fresh strawberries (low GI) with low fat natural yoghurt (yellow/ med GI) and that makes the yoghurt a green light food.

Works the same for meals.. if you love swede (like I do and cant always go without lol) add swede to your carrots and/or sweet potatoes and it reduces its GI making it more a med/low GI food.

The food on its own isn't low Gi, but by mixing the foods you can lower the GI of anything although ideally you should avoid the red foods but on occasion it is ok!

I have some low/med GI smoothie receipes if you want some. They do say they should be drank immediately, but I cant see how freezing them would higher the GI value! They'll be milky lollies, which may not be an instant cooling factor, but least they will be fruity and refreshing xxx

I think semi-skimmed/skimmed milk separates when it is frozen not sure what affect that will have on your ice lolly  I just know we often have a frozen milk in the freezer for emergencies and on the times we've used it I have had to shake it once it was defrosted to mix it back together.

Well thanks everyone i have found one online which is made using the following (incase you want to try them )

  • 16 x Raspberries (80g)
  • 10x Strawberries (150g)
  • 100ml Natural Low Fat Bio Yoghurt
  • 100ml Semi Skimmed Milk

Method

  1. Slice up the fruit.
  2. Throw all the ingredients into a blender and blend till smooth.
  3. Divide into 4 lolly makers and freeze over night.

im going to try them once ive brought the moulds just using strawberries and skimmed instead of semi-skimmed .
