We just got back from our visit to the Child Development Unit to see the paediatrician.  We still haven't got a diagnosis, however, we do know that Lewis has severe behavioural problems.

He was initially assessed over a 2 hour period where it transpired that there was a broad spectrum that Lewis was in.  The bottom end is ADHD and the top end is Autism, and Lewis is somewhere in between.  He needs to be assessed again by a different team, a doctor from that team is coming out to the house in a few weeks' time so hopefully then we will have a diagnosis.

The doctor is going to contact the education department as in his opinion the teachers would not be able to cope with Lewis and therefore he may have to go to a school that caters for special needs.

He was very concerned that we didn't get referred sooner, and I then went on to tell them that I have been asking to be referred for ages, he then asked for the name of my health visitor - or rather ex-health visitor (the chocolate teapot!) so methinks shes gonna get a rocket!!

We have also been told that giving Lewis a good telling off would mean absolutely nothing to him and basically not to bother, however, not to let the bad behaviour go unnoticed without giving him some sort of telling off if that makes sense!

Lewis played a blinder with his behaviour, displaying all the things that I have always thought weren't quite right.  He also took a major tantrum when whe had to go home and had to be carried out of the centre.

We were assured, though, that we needed their help, and it is there for us in abundance.  Definately a positive appointment and things can only get better for Lewis.

Thank you all for your continued support, it is very much appreciated xxxxxxxxx

I am glad that all went well at the apponitment and he showed his behaviour for them, as sometimes its hard for others to understand the problem until they see it for themselves, it took a couple of visits for my ds to show his breath holding technique.

Wishing you all the best for Lewis's future, i am sure things will improve greatly for you all.

I'm glad things are finally getting sorted and that Lewis showed his true colours. Its hard to explain a behaviour when the child isn't displaying it! Good luck with the coming months and hope you get all the help you need x

I am over the moon that you are getting sorted, however a diagnosis especially along the autistic spectrum will not be given quickly!  All you can do is advise anyone who is looking after him, of the ongoing things that are being dealt with.

Fred had an initial 1 hour appointment, has been referred and seen for speech assessment, and is having speech therapy (although no idea what is happening there atm), he has had a hearing test, I have the behavioural officer coming over she started coming on a weekly basis, and has left 3 weeks between his last visit and this one, I also have a pre-school educational someone due at some point, and yet they are still no closer to diagnosing him with anything.  Even though it's obvious there are some problems, having said that the school and nursery think they have a perfect child with them when Fred is there.

I am so chuffed, Iam sat here grinning from ear to ear for you.  I really am glad things are moving forward!

Awww hunny you must be relieved to know it's not all in your head and that others agree that something's not quite right.

At the same time you must be mentally exhausted but boucing off the walls (if that makes sense) you've got your silver cloud and things can only get better!

I'm glad that they are going to support you and kev in the way and manner that you need and lewis of course.

Here's to a brighter future all round (all be it with the normal periods of waiting thrown in for good measure!)

Hugs hun.... have to ask though did they look at the yellow book or did you find it out to sit in your bag?
