hello, everyone

just had a quick question, does anyone know if it's possible to get pregnant after having the mirena coil fitted. i had it fitted in august 07, i didn't have a period last month. I have piled a huge amount of weight on over the last month, it seems to come all at once. My spd has flared up with a vengence, the only time i felt it so bad is when pregnant. I have having sharp shooting pain in my pubis also, seems to be getting worse by the day.

cheers jackie

I wouldn't think you'd be able to get pregnant with the coil fitted, but
perhaps it's a good idea to pop to the doctors and discuss how you're
feeling and put your mind at rest.

I had a Mirena coil for 2 and a half years. I got mine taken out last
July.   I eventually didn't get periods at all - that is a common side
effect of that type of coil. Weight gain is also a common side effect
because of the hormone implant on this particular coil. I was lucky
and didn't put any weight on but a colleague at my last school put 3
stones on quickly after having it fitted. It is more unlikely for you to
fall pregnant on this type coil than any other as you don't build up
much of a lining in your uterus because of the localised hormones -
so the embryo has nowhere to implant. I'd still go to the doctor if I
was having the pain your describing - just to get it checked out.

Take care

Jo
