Hi

I'm after some advice.... i love doing party bags for my kids birthdays, my youngest son who has fairly recently had a lucky dip pot for party favors and they all got a dip and a packet of smarties.... age range was wide so it was hardish to cater for, that and i kept forgetting how many kids where invited! lol

My eldest turns 7 in 8 days and i'm sat here getting the party bag bits finalised and guessing final numbers as he's still waiting to hear back from some people but i've just realised party bags seem to be dying out. The last 2/3 parties my son's been to he's come home with a bag of sweets, haribo or a big bag chewy sweets..... in it's place.

I personally think the ones with toys and gadgets are healthier but i'm now no longer sure what to think..... so question is ladies and gents....

What ages do you all think you will or have in the past stopped party bags?

(ps apologies for poor spelling and grammer as i'm dopped up high as a kite this evening)

I loved doing Joshua's party bags. I put crayons and stencils in his this year, with little dinosaur toys. Also put balloons, and some sweets in. All the kids were keen to get their hands on them! I think if your son likes them and wants them, then go for it. I'll do them for Joshua's parties for as long as he wants me to.

Lol i already know whats going in them i just didn't want to be the only one giving them out at a 7yr old's party! lol

We've got magic slates, pin ball game, a mini 4 colour pen, animal shaped memo pad, smiley poppers. Was going to put a lolly in and a bag of harribo sweets but the mini ones not the big 200g plus ones!

Does that sound ok?

I think I'll probably stop them at age 10 as that would be the last 'big' party until they're 16, that is of course if they still want a 'party' at 10.  If not, then I would probably do about half a dozens friends at an outing or whatever but I'd still give each guest a little bag of goodies (maybe not quite a 'party' bag, but certainly a little minder with make up etc in them - I've got two girls so that parts easy).

I think as long as you're comfortable and can afford to do them hun then it's entirely up to you.  I know the kids really look forward to getting them and I really love making them up..

Did any of you get party bags when you were young or is this another 'American' thing that's been adopted over here? I certainly don't remember anything like that, you left with a piece of cake and a prize if you won a competition and that was it in my day.. (god, how old does that sound?).  I suppose we've all created a rod for our own backs with these things as the kids sort of expect them now don't they? (I do try to to remind my 2 that it's a bonus if they get one and not a given)

My niece is 10 and she had party bags, but my sister did lipgloss, glitter pens, note books etc.. and she did then in boxes instead of bags.

Harrison was 6 in march and i did party cups, I got plastic cups from asda, proper ones, not disposable ones and we filled them with all sorts joke books, toys soilders, bouncy balls etc...they went down a treat and a few others parties Harrison has been too since have all done party cups instead of bags!

I'll still be handing out party bags when he is 16, I dont care you cant have a party with taking goodies home.
