Wow, I feel like this is such a novelty, normally this is my prime moaning spot! I was just going to sign in and send a message about this but then I thought I'd give some yays to everyone on the SPD board as it's not often that we get good news on here, is it?

I have fulfilled the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) criteria and will be awarded higher care and higher mobility awards! It’ll be paid every 4 weeks and will be backdated to the 8th May when I sent the form in! This means a big lump sum at the beginning!

It also means I’m eligible for a free bus travel pass from the lovely Welsh Assembley Government and I have telephoned asking for a form!

YAY!!!! £455 every 4 weeks and about £900 as my back-payment?! FINALLY! It's pretty life changing for my family as we've been living (well, existing really) on benefits for some time now and we have to pay £3 each for bus fare to get anywhere as we live so far out of town. But ... this is just amazing!

Yay with me now, everyone!

hey snibbug! i applied before in dec/jan i think and just got denied anything. so i thought i wasn't entitled til my GP was like "why aren't you getting that?!" so i'm thrilled that i get this money - literally it will change our quality of life so much and hopefully just being accepted for it means i'll be able to harrass people into letting us move house quicker!! :D

Thats great news and must be such a relief, firstly to be recognised as suffering, and financially too! Hope you're able to do something nice as a family, or get something nice out of the back pay.

mum2joshua - hopefully the backpayment will go towards me and my fiance getting married as we've not had the best luck getting the money together until now! that'd be great and i can't wait to choose a lovely outfit for our little boy (he's 10 months old)

Pain is not good, and I know money doesn't really help that much... but, actually, who am I kidding? it'll help loads! maybe i won't feel like such a crutch using, pill popping loser now i am validated! :)

Yeah congratulations hunny!!  why not get a motability car?  Ive just got one using my mobility award - they are fantastic - all you have to pay for is the fuel and oil, screenwash n stuff!!

Again congrats on your award, you deserve it xxx
