Let me explain my experiences and see if that helps you.
When I was pregnant with my son my SPD was so bad and I was in agony all the time. I couldnt use the stairs so I was sleeping on the sofa bed downstairs, trying different pain medication which didnt help me, using crutches. At 30 weeks I hired a wheelchair from the Red Cross which was a huge help going out once I got used to it.
At 37 weeks I was admitted to hospital and had 12 hourly morphine injections. I was monitored well and it had no effect on the baby until I had been on it for a week when his heartbeat started to fluctuate and rise. In the end it settled and he was born by emergancy c section the next day, there was some concern over how he would be but actually he was fine and scored 9/10 on the first apgar test and 10/10 5 mins later.
I really weighed up the pros and cons of morphine but my midwife pretty much insisted as I was in so much pain by that point I couldnt bear any weight on my legs without collapsing, and if I got shooting pains I was litterly screaming with the pain. I was assured I would be monitored and they wouldnt risk my baby.
I would find out how closely you and the baby will be monitored as I was actually hospitalised so I knew I was being checked regually throughout the day.
As for the wheelchair - contact your local red cross, mine were fantastic!
