just had appointment with my gp, he wants me to go onto morphine, i dont really want to cause it has such bad side effects on the baby. he also said i should hire a wheel chair cause he cant get me one. i just dont know how much longer i can take the pain, i guess i have to so i dont damage the baby.

Hun firstly well done for going to your gp it's not easy.

As for a wheel chair don't see this as giving up, it's just another way to get about, you don't have to use it all the time if you don't want to but as a way to give you a method to control the madness.... not something that defines you.

As for hiring them contact your physio department for names and numbers, or your local red cross will also be able to help you out.

Now for the morphine..... i refused to use this whilst pregnant just because it scared me and i couldn't due to my other kids and trying to be a parent on my own.... and i'm still fighting my pain and needs to keep me off morphine.

If you want to try it you can, i personally would have a discussion with your mw and get the full information on how it will help, any risks to the baby and if anything any additional monitoring that you'll need. This will allow you to make a fully informed decision.

Hugs hun x

Let me explain my experiences and see if that helps you.

When I was pregnant with my son my SPD was so bad and I was in agony all the time. I couldnt use the stairs so I was sleeping on the sofa bed downstairs, trying different pain medication which didnt help me, using crutches. At 30 weeks I hired a wheelchair from the Red Cross which was a huge help going out once I got used to it.

At 37 weeks I was admitted to hospital and had 12 hourly morphine injections. I was monitored well and it had no effect on the baby until I had been on it for a week when his heartbeat started to fluctuate and rise. In the end it settled and he was born by emergancy c section the next day, there was some concern over how he would be but actually he was fine and scored 9/10 on the first apgar test and 10/10 5 mins later.

I really weighed up the pros and cons of morphine but my midwife pretty much insisted as I was in so much pain by that point I couldnt bear any weight on my legs without collapsing, and if I got shooting pains I was litterly screaming with the pain. I was assured I would be monitored and they wouldnt risk my baby.

I would find out how closely you and the baby will be monitored as I was actually hospitalised so I knew I was being checked regually throughout the day.

As for the wheelchair - contact your local red cross, mine were fantastic!

Hun the odd of being induced at 37 weeks I think is achievable I was induced at 37weeks, due to spd, pain and lack of mobility.

I personally feeling that morphine isn’t much of an option right now (in your shoes) would try the wheelchair knowing it’s an extra tool in your tool box to get around and see if it makes much difference first and see where you go after that.

Hugs hun it’s not an easy dilemma to decide on but you’ll get there. You know where we are hunny x

hi my name is maria.  i have spd as well and am 33 weeks today.   i have taken morphine as well to help with the pain.   2 differnt gps gave it to me they both said that it was the best choice for not doing harm to the fetus.   it was a very very low dose i think 3mg tablets twice dailey as needed.   i pretty well just took one at night time when things got really bad.  it kinda depended on what i did that day.  i havent taken them now for about a month  just because i didnt want the baby to be born addicted to them.  i just couldnt risk it.  but like i said 2 differnt doctors said that it would be fine.  i also talked to a pharmasist about them and in there books morphine is rated a 2.   2 being not harmful. and 1 doesnt exist,  but.....  there are no studies conducted on pregnant women to back that up.  but they still know its neutral lol.  i hope that helped you out a bit.  there not very strong at that dose.   just a mild sleeping pill really!!!!!
