Hey All

Well Millie has just past her 5mth mark and (as my title says) has suddenly become rather clingy. I'm not complaining because she's generally really good and is an absolutely super sleeper (9.00pm-7/8pm every night) but during the day she's become really clingy with me. She will sit in her bouncy chair or play rug for short periods, or sleep for odd half hour periods, but the a lot of the time she demands attention. She starts off grumbling, and I've tried ignoring her for short periods, however she soon starts yelling and continues until you pick her up (by which point she's made her self rosey with fury, and given herself a hoarse throat and/or hiccups) She's demanding attention from all of us, but seen as I'm the one whose with her most of the time, it's mainly me. She started crying when she's was on DH's knee and I left the room a few days ago, and yesterday I spent the time I was cooking tea carrying her round on my hip whilst it was safe to do so (which isn't easy for long periods cos she's nearly 19lb!) and putting her down and running back and forth whilst I was frying (cos obviously I didn't want to risk her getting burnt) It's very cute that she loves me so much lol, but it makes sharing myself out fairly between both girls, and also doing any house work.

Has anyone any ideas how to handle this? I'm sure Jess went through this stage, but as she's now eight, I can't really remember how I dealt with it LOL. I don't like letting her get upset, but I also don't want to make a rod for my own back! Help! LOL

Hi hun it's not easy and i'm sure it's them learning how to tug the old heart strings.

Mine was to talk loudly and say i'll be right back and play boo and make the time slightly longer etc.

As for the cooking.... will she sit in a high chair (semi reclined)etc with a few toys to help mummy?

well i have to say im a mean mummy and when bronia went through this stage i would walk away and leave her and return when she went quiet for a few seconds so she began to realise that screaming and crying wouldnt get my attention and that sitting quietly would!! as you say it is just not practical to be walking round all day with a baby stuck to your hip and especially when you have another child to think about, hope she comes outa the stage quick for you xxxx

I was much like Lauren, I left Joshua to it lol I did have a stair gate on the kitchen door, so he could see me and know I hadn't run away but I didn't take him in the kitchen with me. If I went upstairs for something he had no choice but to wait until I came down lol I was never gone long, pmsl I sound so harsh doing that lol It has been almost 5 years since I went through the clingy phase, and I dont really remember how long it lasted. The high chair idea sounds good, so you're not having contact but she can feel near you.
