Hello - well marks mums sister has had a lump in her neck for a couple of months her lymphnode i think - doc thought it was a infection gave her antibiotics but they didnt work. He did a blood test fri i think the hospital phoned monday night to make an emergency appointment for tues morn - she couldnt make it as its 50 miles away - shes going tomorrow afternoon and understandably is worried sick - i know the first thing that popped into my head because i don't think they would make such a quick appointment unless it was really serious? would they?

I had a lump in my neck in lymph node and on my head doc was concerned took blood test and was normal so that was that it jsut went away - but shes had this for a while and shes been a heavy smoker for 30 ish yrs.. jsut wondering what everyone thought about such a quick appointment? thanx girls x

It's hard to say hun.  I remember taking Aimee to see the doctor about a big red growth she had at the back of her mouth.  He wanted to have her referred to hospital and said it could be a while for her appointment.  She had some blood taken and I got a letter 3 days later with her appointment for the same week.

I paniked, I thought there must be something more serious than expeced to be called for an appointment that fast.  Anyway, I went for the appoinment and it turned out she had a bad throat infection and they just happened to have a cancellation so they wanted to get her in.

All you can do is wait until she's been to see the docs and see what they say.  i hope everything is OK, let us know how she gets on.

It could be an infection and the doctor just wants to treat it asap as your dp's auntie has had this for a while.

My mil has been ill for months and had blood tests, and again, worryingly, she had to see the doc the next day, but they had found out some of what was causing her illness and treated it accordingly.

Understandably its a very worrying time, and nothing I can say can make you feel any different.  However, a problems shared and all that - we are here for you to offload and to hopefully make you feel a bit better.

Please let us know how she gets on xxxx

It is so hard to say in these circumstances.

I had an MRI on my wrist and was told the waiting times for follow up appointments was 3 months minimum and I may just get the results by letter.

Then suddenly I got a phone call making an appt for the following week, they had had my results for only 3 weeks. I was quite worried and was sure they had found something. Turns out they were clear and because they knew I had a serious problem with the pain they wanted to see me quick to arrange more tests.

My grandad got a sudden call asking to see a consultant following some tests. They brought his appt forward from over a month away until that same week. He and my nan were really worried but it turned out he'd had a cancellation and needed to fill it to meet his quota.

At least she isnt being kept waiting and hopefully whatever it is can be treated quickly.

Like everyone says it doesn't always mean it's serious or what you are thinking it is.  With Government targets for the NHS if they can squeeze a few patients through ahead of the waiting list then it looks good on their records.  I hope it's good news and that her lump can be treated easily.  Let us know.

I'd have thought so hunny but the biopsy is probably something they originally forgot to order....

They'd still want to try and find out what it is and whats caused it but if it was anything sinister i think you'd have heard by now??

It would show up in her bloods.  Lymph nodes being up is normal if there is an infection anywhere..tis the bodies first safety net type thing.  Biopsies do give the difinitive answer though..the bloods tell you if anything is loitering around in the bloodstream chick.

The blood tests are not fool proof chica...stuff has to be of a certain level before the test can pick it up...but if the bloods have come back clear, then try not to stress.  There are lots of tell-tale signs within the blood tests that would say either way...but im not a scientist geek..so couldnt tell you what they are.

Lymph nodes come up when there is an infection around...think tonsilitis, the pox..when youve got a cold stuff like that.

Try and relax a bit chick, try not to look for the sinister in everything..t'aint nice.  Easier said than done...but try mate
