My first Daughter was undiagnosed breech, so I ended up having an emergency CS. Basically the MW told me she was breech at 34 weeks, and then at 38 weeks they told me she turned. Unfortunately, when my waters broke and the MW examined me, they realised that she was actually still breech so in the interest of her safety, I had an emergency c section. As it turns out it was a wise choice, because she was not only breech, but she was back to back and she had her feet behind her ears (so could have seriously damaged he hips coming through the birth canal normally)
I decided I wanted to have my second baby vaginally, so I was monitored closely all the way through to check she wasn't breech as well. Fortunately she wasn't and I had her completely naturally with only the aid of gas and air.
My experience of the CS wasn't bad, and in fact the nicest thing was to just lay there under a blue surgical sheet listening to the radio whilst Jess was being born, which meant I could enjoy the moment, rather than being distracted by pain lol. The one thing I did find was I personally felt more physically delicate after the CS. I had three tears with the vaginal birth, however despite this I didn't feel as physically restricted after my second birth as I was with the CS. With the CS I was told not to do any lifting, not to hoover and (though it didn't affect me at that time) yu're also not allowed to drive for a few weeks after a CS. Both the CS and the vaginal birth have advantages/disadvantages.
One thing I will suggest is that you ask them to scan you a few weeks before your EDD. With my first pregnancy I'd been examined by eight Doctors/MW/Nurses within the last 24 hours of my being pregnant (I had gone into slow labour 36 hours before I had Jess), and it wasn't until my waters went that anyone actually picked up on the fact Jess was still breech. When I went for my 38 week scan with Millie, DH 'insisted' they scanned me with the mobile unit to make sure they were right when they said Millie wasn't breech and luckily they were. I just think it's important (what ever you decide to do) that you give yourself the best opportunity of knowing that they are 100% right about what position your baby is in, so that you can make an informed choice Good Luck!
