hi ladies, well me and andy are wanting a new car,a 7 seater with plenty space,i live close to town center and shops, school etc so it wouldnt be used for these short journeys, more weekend family outings, trips etc. after much discussion we have decided we like the new landrover discoverys and are going to test drive one tomorrow, its expensive and the tax is a lot but i think for us that will be worth it for what we will use it for,i dont think id be getting one if i had to do the daily runs in it as its far too uneconomical and expensive but im just wondering if anyone has one or has had one and what did you think of it,test driving is one thing but using on a day to day basis is another and i want to be sure wer making the right decision, thanks in advance for any input xxx

Gas guzzling and un-environmentally sound. I worry about wee ones playing about when it maneuvers too as visibility is limited when you're in it. Looks lovely though!

I have a pathological hatred of 4 x 4s. Sorry!
Why not go for something more environmentally friendly, cheaper to run and just as roomy. I have two little ones and manage quite nicely with a Ford Focus. It's diesel and saves me bundles.

I love my 4x4, my sister has the new discovery and I'm a tad jelous as it is nice, not comfy enough for me though. We have a mercedes ML320 and I love it, we havent had it long but its nice to drive, comfy, masses of room... yes it guzzles, is high tax and isnt very enviromental but I like it and its the best car we have had so far as I'm not a fan of MPV's or estates
My dad has a mitsubish shogun which is very too although hes not brave enough to let me drive it...

We had a Landrover TD5 up until a few months ago. Dp has a passion for 4x4's but I just don't see the attraction. It was very spacious though. Fuel economy wasn't that good and dp was only using it for short runs mainly to work and back. We decided to sell it as dp wasn't able to tow our caravan with it (as he passed after 1997 there's laws re the weight of the car and caravan together and as the 4x4 was heavy it would have taken him over the limit meaning he would have to take another driving test). We now have a mitsubishi spacestar which is sooooo tiny in comparison and the boot is very little but its much cheaper to run.
We had a ford focus estate prior to the 4x4 and that was great - loads of room, loads of boot space etc but dp had his heart set on the land rover so it had to go.

I have the new Merc ML280 and as Rin says its pretty pricey for gas and
tax but I feel so safe driving it - you are really high up so have a good
view of the road. There is also loads of room and if we need to we can
put 2 extra seats in the boot.
Haven't driven the Discovery but it looks nice - the Freelander 2 is
really nice too!

well,we have been, and left our deposit, got a v good deal on it and were happy with the drive, the reason we didnt go for an estate zo is just because we need the extra seats,we looked into the zafiras etc and found that most other 7seaters didnt have the same boot space to take a couple of prams with all the seats up etc,we have a lot of young children in the family and circle of friends so often need more than one pram and 3 car seats, and found them to be just as pricey when you need a bigger engine to carry the weight. ive never been one for 4x4's myself either but after looking into it and taking one for the test drive ive decided it tends to be some of the drivers that let them down, the bullys that think they are untouchable in them,i found i felt v safe and had good views of the road etc,as i said,i dont think id be comfortable driving one if i had to go short distances such as the school run especially due to the size of them. thanks for all your views ladies xxx

well done you. I have a toyota rav 4 and have been pestering dh for a car, but finances won't let us. I have no room in this for the family, although the boot space is great, and it wil be winstons playpen in rainy weather while fred is at his special school. Have fun!
