Hey guys,

I'm in some desperate need of advice.  I started having regular contractions on thurs night ( its silly o'clock wednesday morning now) didnt think anything of it just assumed it was braxton hicks since i was only 34+ 3 so went to bed. was still having them in the morning so started timing them and they were 10 mins apart and painful.  tried to get hold of a midwife no such luck had no idea wat was going on since this is my first and was getting pretty scared and was no where near home.  phoned the local labour ward and they said not to worry just go and see my doc.  so i just poked up with it sat the contractions got down to 4mins apart so went into labour ward they told me they thought i had another urine infection which might be sending me into preterm labour they gave me steriod injections and wanted to monitor me overnight but i discharged myself ( am terrified of hospitals) as the midwife didnt believe anything would happen.  im still contracting every 5-10 mins and they HURT but it doesnt seem to actually be doing anything to my cervix apparently its soft and baby is 3/5 engaged but nothing is moving.  am tired and in pain and have no idea wat to do anymore.  dont think i can cope like this for the next 5 weeks.  anyone know if this is normal or can anyone think of anything i can do to help myself?? i was really looking forward to a home birth but now i find myself guiltly wishing he would just hurry up and get out!!

Siobhan sorry about the novel lol

hi..sorry to hear that you are having the contractions comin so early. i had to get the shot and went home ok since my contractions stopped..i was 7 mo preg at that time. but if u are still barely 35 wks..i would recommend a birthing place w monitors since the baby may need more monitoring in case of complications...hope you can hang in a little longer to have the home birth if possible..good luck

Awww hunny firstly welcome to madmums.

I think you should contact your midwife again.... keep trying. I can't say whats' going on as i'm not a medical professional but you need to be closely monitored and they do need to keep an eye on you. So please ring them, let them know how and why your scared of hospitals..... i'm sure they have had people in before who are petrified before.

Hugs hun, i've had those steriod injections and they don't half sting but it's better for the saftey of bubs.

May i ask why you are so terrified of hospitals?

thanks guys,

I keep trying to get hold of my midwives. whats the point of having community midwives with mobiles who never answer or check their messages?? im sure the hospital staff are starting to get sick of me lol i dont have an infection apparently but surely something has got to be causing this i cant find anything anywhere saying this could possibly be normal im just so tired and emotional i think im just going to go back to the hospital this evening. i dont like them cos i've been in and out all my life i suppose it just comes down to hospital = pain silly i know since i already am but everything designed to see whats going on makes things worse.  lol prob just paranoia xx

Awww hunny i can understand you aprehension (sp) let them know how you feel about hospitals.... they should take it into consideration when talking to you etc.

I agree, to me hospitals mean pain, needles etc. I tend to have panic attacks and end up leaving zany shapped holes in the doors. Not my favorite place but i do it because i have my boys to think of and you need to go and if they admit you try to stay there, if you get nervous and want to leave talk to someone about it as you should stay in for pain relief and your baby... they aren't trying to keep you in for the sake of it, beds are in high demand nowdays so take that into consideration when/if they ask you to stay.

Hugs hun it's normal to worry about the unknown but try to think of the positives that might come from it. x
