Hi I'm Carol and new-ish to the site.

I was diagnosed with spd about 2 weeks ago and its been going on about a month before that. I've been seen by a physio who referred me to a womens health specialist after I was not responding to any of her techniques.

Today I was given crutches and told that this will be the modus operandi from now on. I was wondering if anyone has got any tips to keep things as normal as possible while keepin on the least painfull side of things and even tips to help slow the progress.

Any suggestions welcome,

Ca

Hi Carol - you've read the tips on the site havent you? In this article?

The most important thing is to rest - I know it is difficult but take it easy and dont overdo it. However tempting it is not to use the crutches they really are for your benefit (I once went out without them because I was fed up of how I was having to rely on them - I ended up in so much pain I was up all night as I couldnt even lay down and I was in a wheelchair shortly afterwards.)

Accept all offers of help. I know its hard but people dont offer if they dont want to help. Dont use a hoover as that is really bad for the pelvis and try to avoid excess use of stairs. Use a bag to carry all you will need from upstairs at the beginning of the day and vice versa at night.

I'll add more later as I'm flying about a bit (well as much as possible) at the moment.

Hi hunny sorry to hear you've got spd too.

Big gentle hugs.

The best tip i can give you is listen to your body, don't overdo it or you'll suffer for it the next day.

On top of what madz has said try not to use a shopping trolley get them to deliver if possible.

Use a carrier bag to help you pivot in and out of bed/putting feet up on the sofa etc. Do you have an old pair of tights or a tie that dh/dp no longer uses if so make a loop and hook it round the bottom of your feet and use that to lift your legs together to get in and out of bed.

Pad the handles of the crutches either with plumbing foam or clean socks as you'll end up with tender palms.

Remember rome wasn't built in a day and slowly but surely you can win the race.

Hugs hunny.... take a look at the article something new always pops out  or is there any area's your struggling with in particular?

Take care and chat soon hunny.

Remember we have the buddy system if you would like some one on one advice and help. Hugs remember we're women and we can beat this, just one day at a time x

hi Carol

i have had SPD myself now for 4 years, got it early on in my pregnancy, ended up virtually hospitalised and am still suffering, dd is 3 and half now. What i can say is this has been the most informative site I have come across. i have been trying to find info out for post pregnancy without any luck, or nothing that i didn't already know anyway. The buddy system is great and have been given very helpful advice from Madz and Zany and also Jennypenny.

take care

jackie

Hi again,

I'm findin the tips in the articles are helpfull. Startin to get used to the plastic bag idea, its genius. Dp is looking at me a little funny though for it.

Guess I'm just findin it a bit hard to adjust to on such a short period of time. I know all of you have gone through similar situations and are still so positive. Hoping I can be too.

Thanks for the advice and the support girls, hope to chat soon.

Ca xx

Awwww i'm glad the hints and tips are helping hun thats the bonus of this site having members who have been the done that (and some of us still or). Being told you have spd/pgp is a huge shock to the system and once you've found a few key ways to keep plodding it'll be easier to be stronger and fight it.

Have you thought of keeping a little diary so when you have a bad day you can look aback and see you've done a bad day before and you came out the otherside and you will again. Might make you feel more confident and stronger. Don't bottle up your feelings a spider board of feelings, drawings etc it'll help get it all out.

As for the carrier bag thing...... let dh play lol he'll soon realise why your doing it. It's little things that really make a difference.

Hugs hunny
