Poor Eds - hes really unwell at the moment. He has a terrible cold which started with him being exhausted all week (asleep at 5.15pm on monday for the night and the rest of the week by 6.30pm latest).

Then the cough/runny nose started. He was still ok in himself so he went to school. On Thursday afternoon he seemed worse but on Friday morning he was better again so went to school. Spent the afternoon with Mum and then Tony and I had a business meal out so mum and dad had Eds. He slept ok except waking at 4am with a cough needing water. On Saturday morning he'd lost his voice and slept most of yesterday afternoon and then slept straight through the night as well.

The problem is he has had gunky eyes all week. They are a bit red in the corners and under the lids and there is a white/yellow discharge but nothing major - just a little bit in the corners. He doesnt seem to be in discomfort. Is it conjunctivitis? Mum thinks so but I'm not sure - I will need to keep him off school tomorrow if it is - although I might do anyway.

He seems ok again this morning, although when I cleaned his ears he collapsed into sobs saying it hurt so I think his whole sinus system is shot. Bless him. He tends to be ok in the morning and then bad in the afternoon and evening. If he doesnt have Conjunctivitis do you think he'd be ok to go to school (he wants to go) or should I keep him at home?

I never know what to do for the best. All my mothering insticts tell me to keep him at home wrapped up in blankets but he wants to go to school and has energy and is ok in the mornings. They are also having 'enviromental week' at school and I dont want him to miss out on the fun.

None of this is helped by the fact I have had a major SPD flare up and can hardly move at all. My hypermoility has also flared up so it isnt just my hips but my whole body that aches and cramps. In the afternoons thankfully all eds needs is cuddles - and that I can do!

Madz if his ears are hurting and his eyes are all snotty like try cleaning with cooled boiled water and if it comes back within an hr or 2 it's likely to be conjivitus.

As he's complaining of ear ache i'd get him checked out to be on the safe side.

The only problem is ears, nose and throat are all connected and if we're bunged up then the excess from our noses can (tmi sorry) come out of the overflow into the tear ducts (found this out as kieran has small/narrow tear ducts.)

Hope he gets well soon x

Hope he is feeling better soon bless him. Cool boiled water, or warm milk for his eyes if its conjunctivitis.. use cotton wool or something and only wipe in one direction, and once per piece of cotton wool.

If you send him to school can you get back if they call you to collect him? Someimes it is best just to let them rest all day and hopefully beat the bug quicker, however, with Joshua if he is fine to play at home then IMO he is fine to play in school lol Im a little strict with sending him in mainly because I loose a days pay, but also because his education is important even at this young age. If Eds is really tired and quiet then rest might be best for him.

I hope he is feeling better soon bless him. And why is it they are always worse in the evenings? In bed I can understand, lying down cant be comfortable with blocked sinuses.. but in the evening you're tired from being up all night and running round after them all day then they decide to be clingy and needy... kids huh!!!

I know what you mean Chris - but actually I can cope with clingy needy eds when he is ill better than the playful one. If I am shattered from being up with him and looking after him all day then if he just wants to curl up with mummy I can do that - what I cant do is play games, chase him round with a hanky, etc etc.

DH might be off tomorrow so I will see how he is but at least if I do send him, DH can collect him.

If it's conjunctivitis keep him off school- it's extremely contagious and he'd be sent home anyway if the school suspect he has it.

Hope he's feeling better soon.

I'm with Lynie on this one, I have never sent them in with conjunctivitus.  Even if I just suspect it.  It isn't a leasant thing, and they have to have their own towel, flannel etc, and it can take ages especially if it keeps getting passed about.  Your best bet is to get him checked out especially with his ear anyway.  Hope he is fighting fit soon.

I am almost positive it isnt conjunctivitis as the weeping has stopped, the eye isnt red and I am fairly certain it was just linked to the cold. Mentioned it to the school but there is no evidence of it so they were happy to take him.
