I didn't really know where to post this but maybe you can help...

I found out on Sunday I was 4 weeks + 1 pregnant. Sunday night I had lightly blood-stained discharge. I went to the doc's Monday morning and was admitted to hospital for observation (they have no facilities at my doc's).

The bleeding has since gotten worse, it went to mild bleeding on Sunday afternoon/evening and I would say today it is the same as a light period.

I have has a few small (0.5cm) clots as well but the blood has been bright red and not brown. I have had mild period-like 'pain' (more like discomfort) and a few very small cramps (although I'm not sure if that\s my uterus or my guts which have been playing up recently).

The doctor did an ultrasound scan with the probe and palpated me. There was no sign of the pregnancy and last nigh she diagnosed me with a 'threatened miscarriage'. She took bloods and did a lot of tests, oddly none of them testing my HCG levels.

Since last night (it is now nearly 6pm over here) the bleeding has increased to what I would call 'moderate'. I saw another doctor at rounds this morning who took more blood for an HCG test (she said it was odd they didn't test yesterday). I am waiting for results.

I have stopped 'feeling' pregnant. I no longer feel nauseous although am still very tired.

I have been reading till my eyes bleed about bleeding during early pregnancy (I am now 4+3) and lots of people have gone on to have normal pregnancies and babies. But it's the 'feeling'. I know it's silly but I jsut know I've lost the baby.

Has anyone got any advice for me? I have another 2 or 3 hours left to wait until these HCG results come back and I just don't really know *why* this is happening.

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Helen

Hi Helen, welcome to madmums, sorry you haven't been able to join on happier terms.

Bleeding in early pregnancy is very common, and quite normal. With my son I was 18 weeks+ pregnant when I found out, and I had been having periods (irregular, but definiate bleeding) throughout, so I would really try not to worry until your results come back. The best thing for you and your bump is rest (easier to say I know). I hope your HCG results come back soon, and they are good results. Let us know how you get on. In the meantime try reading or using your internet access to distract yourself. I wouldn't recommend browsing the web for reasons behind your bleeding, it may throw up stories that will only cause unnecessary stress and worry. Every pregnancy is different, which means that we all go through something slightly different to the next person, but it doesn't necessarily mean its a bad thing.

Good luck, and I hope you get some good test results later today.

Christine xxxx

I'm sorry you are going through this.

At least you are being monitored at the hospital so you should know something soon. The above poster is right - there are many reasons for bleeding in early pregnancy, most of them not worrying and many people go on to have a normal pregnancy. Reading up on the web is not always helpful as it can scare you and worry you more than nessesary.

Make sure you rest up lots and try to relax until you know either way.

If the news is bad then we offer a buddy scheme which can help you here but please try not to worry yet.

I hope the news is good for you and I will be thinking of you. Please let us know and we will support you either way.

Welcome to madmums by the way, I'm Maddy, 24 and mum to 3 year old Edward.

i'm afraid it's not good news. My beta HCG was 7.1 which is incredibly low. we are seeing the specialist tomorrow but there is no way I am still pregnant with that count.

ho hum. better luck next time i suppose. thanks again for all your help and I will be back next time I have some decent news :)

we are ok. just about. i mean, it was very early on so we hadn't had much time to get all excited etc. it's just very sad.

does anyone know anything about trying again after m/c? I don't know if you're meant to wait. I have hear rumours that you're more fertile soon after but it could just be balony and false hope.

Either way we both feel a bit like 'what's the point?' although I know we are both wanting to get at it asap.

Personally i don't know much about ttc after a m/c but i'd say go with your hearts.... you can only start bedroom dancing once your both happy and ready to do so....

Give yourselves time to say bye and heal then when you both feel ready go for it.
