any advice please!

my (nearly) 3 year old is totally refusing to clean his teeth - we have tried ignoring it - not making an issue - buying fancy toothbrushes - letting him do it himself - rewards - bribes etc etc  nothing is working - any advice much appreciated

If you have tried all the tricks then it comes down to keep trying.  Try different toothpastes until he finds one he likes, let him choose his toothbrush make it a special trip to the shop to buy toothbrush and toothpaste.  Ban things he likes unless he brushes his teeth afterwards like no sweets or juice drinks.  You can get books about brushing teeth try and find a few books to drop into his normal bedtime story about brushing teeth.  Make it a routine task as well don't change the times you expect him to brush his teeth, get up in the morning and include it in his normal routine, before bed last thing brush teeth.  I also let my son brush his teeth in the bath so he could play with the toothbrush.  There is no magic cure with 3 year olds other than dogged determination that you will win in the end. hth

Hiya - jsut to say i completely agree with Sam make it a routine - emily has always brushed her teeth (well we do and then she does aswell) since having teeth and its her daily routine now she knows it has to be done and sometimes she does make a little fuss but she knows no teeth brushing = no treats simple as that also its not a choice it has to be done  - hope you get some joy soon - btw Emily is 4 in may and is by no means an angel lol

I agree with the above statements, making it into a routine can really help. With my children I tried to make it fun like the old aeroplane into the mouth trick for eating. Hope this helps

Yes, deny him the goodies unless he promises to brush. I
used to have the same problem, too, and my husband, being
a rough guy, called DD (who was around 2 years old), showed
her pictures on the internet of really bad teeth. He showed her
how the worst cavities and tooth decays look like. I guess the
photos scared her ;)
