For those of you with daughters I was wondering what your thoughts are on the new Cervical Cancer Vaccination avaliable. Will you be letting your daughter have it when she reaches 12 or 13 (not sure what the age is exactly for it).

I know when it was first launched a lot of parents were against the idea, but since the Jade Goody cancer story has covered the press in recent weeks more and more parents are changing their minds.

There is an old news article I found here which explains more about the Jab for those who want more info.

I was just curious if you had thought about this and if you had changed you mind in light of Jade Goodys public battle with cervical cancer?

My eldest daughter will be turning 9 soon, so i guess its something to be thinking about myself for the coming future.
My sister is 17 and has had these jabs recently, and so i think i would take my girls for them too regardless of Jade's story being so well covered in the press and media.
A family member of mine also died at the age of 27 leaving 3 small boys and her husband behind from cervical cancer only 3 months ago.. and although the chances of contracting this condition at such an early age is rare.. there seems to be a good enough reason for the jabs being introduced or why else would they be wasting precious money and resources bringing them in.
(My personal views only lolol)

I was chatting to my gp about this a couple of months ago, and dd will definitely be getting them, they will be given at 13-14 yrs of age, but they are starting with the older ones and rolling it out through the schools.

There is however a catch!  If your child is sexually active this won't necessarily work.  It is based on the assumption that the girl is a virgin, as if they have had sex they may have already been exposed!  And that is what the doctor actually told me.  He also said it isn't going through the doctors, it's going from the health boards directly into the schools!
