I am very worried about my 5 month old baby boy ( Declan) who in January was taken into hospital with bronchiolitis- it started off as just a cold and within days was needing to be tube fed, oxygen support and then on a drip and was in hospital for a total of 8 days.

Anyway- in the last few days he has started with a cold which he has picked up from his sister and at 3am monday morning i had them both to the dr and then 4am this morning had to send declan back to the dr as he had become very wheezy and was struggling to breathe. Dr prescribed him salbutamol inhaler and a mask to help him take it. And i have an appointment for his to see asthma nurse this afternoon.

I am no doctor but i am convinced he doesnt have asthma- i am sure its the bronchiolitis starting again but no one seems to be listening or taking me seriously. Hope to get some joy from the nurse today.

Poor little guy is laid at the side of me coughing his head off and i am sure i can see him starting to recess (looking at his tummy and chest when he breathing)

Any advice appreciated

Simone

Hiya Simone hunny - Declan is no better I take it. Hows Courtney doing?  I hope you get some joy with the nurse today - if she is at all concerned she will arrange for Declan to see the doc hunny so dont worry about that.

You know your own kids so dont be fobbed off and if you still get no joy - take him to the out of hours GP.  Trust your instincts hunny.  I know how hard it is for you with your current situation, I wish I lived nearer to you to help out.  You know where I am if you need me hunny.

Hope you  get the answers you need

what a waste of time the nurse was!

she wouldnt even examine him- said she wasnt qualified for that sort of thing and said sorry i had a wasted journey!

she did say that if he gets like it again tonight just to take him to a&e

she said that both kids look unwell- well yeah

off to pain clinic now

Just come back from the doctors with him.

Doctor agrees with me about the bronchiolitis- said there are definite crackles on his chest. He is trying him with a course of antibiotics but has said if he worsens or i am worried over he weekend to take him straight into hospital.

I am not being pessimistic but I really do think that is exactly where he is going to end up- his chest sounds awful. Iam getting an overnight bag ready just in case. Fingers crossed the antibiotics help.

I think us mums always know our kids best and if you have any concerns just do what you think is best! I hope he feels better soon but if you get worried then get him back up to the hospital asap.

Let us know how it goes.

hi ,

Sorry to hear your little ones arent well, when my little boy got really bad bronchilitus i was frantic too his chest sounded like some one was rustling a crisp packet under water i was advised to put him to sleep in his baby bouncer in his cot and it did help a bit, just keep an eye on him and take him to A&E if he gets worse or there is no improvement after a couple of days ( if its a viral infection he should show signs of improvement from between three to five days). the hosp. will check his oxygen levels and give him a nebuliser if needed to bring up his oxygen levels if they are low, a good way to know if he is struggling to breath is if you look at his belly where it meets the rib cage (solar plexes) if it is indented and hollow then he is caught for breath and will be what i call belly breathing. Hope this helped and didnt freak you out

regards Lailah
