Hi guys,

So sorry I havent been about. Its a little difficult using the laptop for long periods and I have also been very tired mainly, I think, from the morphine withdrawal as I am already cutting the drugs back.

I'm still not weight bearing, however I saw the Prof on Sept 1st and he was really pleased with my progress. The x rays are looking sound and Im feeling good in myself. The few pains I was getting in my groin he thinks are down to the ligaments and muscles mending themselves and being unused so has given me some light exercizes to do which although sometimes difficult I am trying my hardest.

He has asked me to go back on the 22nd and if all is still going this well he says I will be able to start using crutches from then. I am so pleased and excited as that will be 9 weeks post op which is on the earlier end of the scale I'd been told to expect.

I'm feeling good in myself. Frustrated at not being able to do anything for myself really and having to rely on other people so much as my house is very un-wheelchair friendly, however my family have all be fantastic at helping out.

Eds has been my star and loves helping his mummy out. He started school on wednesday and is loving it and doing so well. He was even given the job of Fruit Monitor on his second day at school. I am so pleased for him.

There isnt much else to report. I am still having back pains and problems sleeping but I think a lot of that is due to me being stuck in on position all day and Im hoping it will all ease as I start to move more.

Take care everyone.

Love Madz x

Madz it's fantastic to read that you are doing so well after all the hurdles you faced before. I too don't get on the pc as much as i used to but thats from damaging my left shoulder joint in an accident this summer.

I really hope things go from strength to strength, how are your wrists? Are they going to be ok with you going onto crutches... i know it's something that must be as exciting as christmas (well ok almost) just don't want it to cause you problems in other areas and spoil this positive time.

Hugs and good luck with the rest of your recovery.

Hi Ladies,

I am so happy I found this forum and read your posts. I am recovering from an SI Joint Fusion, the left side..the right was done 13 years ago. I had 7 lumbar surgeries including fusions and decompression of the vertebrae. It caused instability of the si joint so they fused one and not the other, which then deteriorated because of the stress on it.

My SPD issue, which I believe it is, is not due to childbirth but I would like to share info with you. I am not supposed to be on the net at all though, so I will be around occaissionaly .

I have stabbing pains in my groin and to the left of the pubic bone when I try to walk or turn a little or get in and out of the car. My doctor said 6 weeks in bed, but it was much longer when a doc fused the right joint. He now says just walking a little for exercise for the next 6 weeks and then maybe physiotherapy after then but not until.

If I can't walk, I don't know how to get some exercise. It seems your doctor has you in bed longer than 6 weeks Madz and then on crutches. That's how it was on the right side. I wonder if my doc has me moving to fast.

Madz, did you have your SI joint fused, if so, on one side only. If both are not done they are finding it will cause problems on the other side in time, which is what happened to me. Did you need the symphysis pubis bones fused as well?

Any info you can provide me would help tremenddously. Most ortho's just lilke to blame everything on my previous surgeries and say I have to live with it. they don't want to give me any more surgeries, but I can't take the pain, meds aren't helping with it at all.

Thanks,
Maryann

Hi Madz,

Glad you're near the end of the non weight bearing period, it seems to go on for ever! I had SP and RSI joints fused by Prof in feb and was non weight bearing for 3 months after a 2 week stay in LGI. Currently having physio and hydrotherapy 2x week for rehab and came off the morphine last month. Still not as mobile as before the op but told it takes time but on the plus side have driven short distances for the 1st time in 3 years!!!

Do have full time care from the direct payments scheme which is a godsend as DH didn't do the in sickness bit so nolonger around.

Recommend regular sports massage for transferance pains from being in wheelchair and crutches, do get numb fingers and pains from trapped nerves.

Hope you continue to make good progress.

Lydia xx
