I just want to let you know that finally after 5 years they have done a stork xray up in leeds and confirmed that my pelvis is broken. I have to be the happiest women in the world at the moment as they finally believe me that there is something wrong. Now more being sent to councilers and psychologists while they tried to decide if I was mad and just making it all up.

I had to share it with you all. DO NOT GIVE UP and if you can make the effot of going to Leeds General Infirmary to see Prof P Giannoudis as he at least knows something about pelvic problems triggered by pregnancy.

What will happen with me next I do not know but at least its better the devil I know then the devil I didn't.

Hope and gental hugs to you all.
From Sam who feels like dancing on the celing even though that would cripple me :0)

I've been meaning to reply to this for weeks - Im so sorry!

I am over the moon for you! Well done!

I cant believe your pelvis is broken and you have had to go through all this.

Prof G is a legend! He has been such a huge help to me and turned my life around. I would recommend anyone with severe post pregnancy pelvic pain who isnt getting the answers they want get a referal to Leeds. I travel a 7-8 hour round trip (depending on traffic - can be longer!) and it is totally worth it!

So what will happen now? Is he going to be operating?

How did you find out about the proffessor? Are you local to Leeds? Sorry for all the questions - I'm a nosey whatsit!

Lots of love and big hugs. Lets hope this is the begining of the end for you now!

Hi Madz

thanks for your reply its good to hear from you. I actually found out about Prof G from a message you sent me back last year but it took nearly 10 months for my doctors to send the message to the right place and to finally get an appointment. As yet I have not actually met Prof G face to face as he was away when I went for my appointment - a big error on the hospitals dehalf as I have had to travel all the way from North Devon to Leeds which is about 7.5 to 8 hours each way which is exhausting as you can imagine. It was his juniour that confirmed what was happening and has since talked to the Prof who wants me to have bloods and an MRI before going back to see him hopefully at the end of march begining of april. I hope it will be April as I have the 4 kids which will be coming with me to friends in Hull before I go for the appointment which will tell me if I can have surgery (a big possibility).

Did you have surgery on your pelvis?? how was the recovery and how are you now?

I would travel to the ends of this earth to finally have the answer as to whats going on with my pelvis. Im still over the moon though its been taken as rather a shock by my family as at last they finally believe the pain im in and they are trying to re adjust to the fact that they cannot expect me to do all the things im expected to do.

Husband training tips still needed I have shown them your information about SPD  but its still not fully getting though to him.

Big gental hugs to you.

From Sam

Sorry Sam - I did think it might have been me that emailled you but couldnt be 100% - I blame the morphine as I am still on it (although much much less than pre op) and forget everything!

I'm sorry you didnt get to meet the prof - that must have been so frustrating - although I do know all his team are very capable!

Yes I had the op - so far only the front done. Hoping that will be all thats needed. I had a bone graft taken from my left hip and used to fuse my symphysis pubis joint and then a metal plate screwed in over the top.

Recovery is tough - I wont lie. I had 9 weeks of total non weight bearing so a good support network is a must. However it passed much quicker than I expected and by the end I was a dab hand at transfering with transfer boards etc and getting myself about.

When it gets to that stage and you have an op date send me a msg and I'll give you my number so I can go through it all in detail with you - actually if you want to chat before then, about anything, then let me know!

Dont talk to me about husbands - unfortunately I havent found the magic trick to get them to understand yet and its been a bad day for me today (a rarity as I have been doing so so well since the op). However every know and again things flare up and this morning they did. However hubby chose to ignore me withering around in bed in pain and when I finally got myself up and then fell back down in my sons room he claimed he hadnt heard me calling, or crying. Maybe he didnt but I made quite a racket knocking all eds stuff over so I'm surprised he didnt come and see what had happened.

I'm used to it now though. I dont tend to talk to him about it much as he doesnt understand so I keep it simple (as in "Good Day" or "Bad Day") and then talk to my mum when I need a little support.

I do want you to realise though that what happened to me today was a real rarity as things have been amazing and all my friends and family cant believe the transformation. I havent been able to drive for 5 years because of this so I use quite a few taxis and even the taxi drivers have been clapping and cheering me when they've seen how far I have come!

I'm glad your family are coming round to the idea. I dont think I realised originally how much of an effect my condition had on those around me and how much their lives had to change to accomodate me so give them time but be firm. If you cant do it SAY SO - dont try and push through the pain because you will pay for it later.

Do you know exactly what the stock x rays showed your problem to be? And where? It helps to know what sort of op they will do and the recovery times.

Big hugs and take care,

Love Madz x

Hi Madz

sorry I have not replied its up and down here trying to work out what i need to be doing. I still have not heard from my doctor and cannot get an appointment with him to discuss what is going on.

Im not fully sure what the xray showed other then that the bones move past each other a lot every single time I move my legs. They say is unstable and broken at the same time but not like a leg fracture type break. im back with the prof on the 13th April so I should get a lot more help then. I know they are definatly talking about surgery but I don't know yet if its fusing or what ever else they do.

Do you have a list of questions that you asked before your surgery? or questions post surgery that you think you should have asked. as you didn't live any where near the hospital how did they get you home post surgery and how long was it untill you could come home. Im not sure with living in North Devon how I could get home if im supposed to stay flat especially with my little mob of children etc to sort out. The hospital told me  you recommed silk pjs to help get around in once you have had surgery. Any other tips????

I was so bad yesterday i just did not know where to put myself and the pain killers just did not touch it. I was so tempted to take more then I am supposed to but didn't but I just did not know what to do.

Im still so thrilled to know whats up with my pelvis but must admit im getting  very cross, angry with the doctors down here who just DO NOT WANT TO KNOW. How can they leave people in such agonising pain and just tell them to get on with it its all in your mind. I don't want any other woman to ever have to suffer this again. Did you get support from your doctor?

Thanks for your support to everyone on this group Madz oh and just to let you know that you are the official support person they recommend for anyone going to see the prof in Leeds.

I would love to talk some time. I still have not qualified for benefits or any support at home despite needing crutches and a wheelchair. craxzy but oh well I will keep smiling.

From Sam
