I can't find the post where Flip mentioned about voting for MadMums using the google toolbar... but I have been doing, and have a question...

Sometimes, when I sign in to MMs, the google page rank shows MMs as having 4 out of 10 - but not always. Why is this, Flip?!?!

Also, does anyone know if it matters how many times I vote from the same PC - I wondered if Google were clever enough to recognise the ip address.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Incidentally, I tried to log in on MIL's pc earlier and put the address in the wrong bit on her tool bars and got the MSN search for madmums - and it was quoting one of my posts!!! V worrying!!!!!

PS - Clearly the title of this post should say "google" grrrrrrrr Must learn to spell..... or use check on google bar!! LOL!

We've just got a page rank finally in the last update which was last week, at the moment the only pages ranked that I can find, are active users and the default domain name, if you goto http://www.madmums.com/default.asp the page rank is currently showing 0/10 if you enter using http://www.madmums.com/ it's 4/10 which is pretty much standard for a first ranking.

Now the hard work starts, we need to build as many as possible links to http://www.madmums.com from other sites (as well as some other stuff) hence the reason for asking people to put the full address anywhere they can on the web, especially sites that are of the same subject.

There are lots of things you can do to help, making sure relative posts are punctuated and as descriptive as possible with proper grammar in their titles helps, don't use slang or or things like av, u etc, don't use all caps in topic titles - all these little things help.

Google PR are updated every 3 to 4 months ish.

Excellent. Thanks Flip.

Now, maybe I'm, the only one sad enough to ask (don't all rush at once to agree) but what exactly are all the things that we can do to help...

I get the bit about linking to the site, and about spelling etc (probably spelling google correctly might help!!!) but what else? Even techie stuff?

If we search on google for mad mums - will that help?

I genuinely am interested....

No

Building inbound links is the most important, especially from sites that fall into the same category and have high page ranking.

Bounty does not count as they don't allow the posting of links in their forum, so links are not formatted as links, so if they are not formatted as links then search engine robots/spiders/crawler are unable to follow them as they can not distinguish against them and normal text, so they don't count, apart from the fact that they actually advertise the site to other visitors.

Some sites that do allow you to add or post links will normally convert the link to fully qualified URL (with the http://) in front for you, which is what happens when you post in this forum, I would say though personally it is always good practice to use this anyway, http://www.madmums.com but www.madmums.com is fine if you are unable to remember the the http://. The only other thing I can say is although .co.uk also points at this site please don't use it, always use .com
