OK, having read a couple of the other threads on weaning I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing, so after some opinions.

Cerys has a 6oz bottle when she wakes up at around 7am.

She then has a porridge breakfast at anytime around 8.30 and 9.30am followed by a 5oz bottle of milk about 20 minutes later.

Lunch is around 12.30 - 1.30pm which is normally about 5/6 ice cubes of veg, she then has a 7oz bottle about 20 - 30 minutes after she has finished her lunch.

She has her dinner at about 5pm which is normally a pudding, either some homemade fruit or half a tin/jar of pudding.  She will then have a 5oz bottle straight after that.

She then has a 7oz bottle at 7pm before she goes to bed.

She is given water whilst she is eating her solids as well.  I just wonder whether I have made a mistake by keeping the bottles whilst she is having solids? Or should I increase her solids, although she does still ask for a bottle afterwards so not sure now if this is just a comfort thing.  She is content enough and still sleeps through for 12 hours at night so I shouldn't really complain, but just want to see what everyone else is doing or how you stopped your LO from having a bottle.

hi nickimas

your daily weaning routine sounds similar to toms

he has quite large portions - equivalent to a toddlers bowl

he has a bottle (180ml) about 6am with baby cereal at around 7:30/8am

he has another bottle about 11am ish (180ml) and i give him a little bit of toast to chew on

then he has a light lunch such as scrambled eggs or a pureed savoury meal

then another bottle (180ml)

for tea hell have his main savoury meal plus a pud (usually 2 mashed up bananas in formula milk or yoghurt)

he then has a bottle around 7pm and goes to bed at 7:30pm

hth

You sound like you have it cracked to me.  She will gradually reduce her milk as you increase her solids at meal times, but what you are doing sounds great and Cerys obviously thinks so too which is what is important.

It sounds good to me! You do what fits your baby best, they are all different.

Edward has a breastfeed when he gets up around 8am.

Cereal at around 9-9/30am

Lunch at 12.30ish (pureed veg or a savory meal) after his nap and a breastfeed 30mins-1hr later (sometimes up to 3hrs later, demends on his mood)

Tea at 5ish after his 2nd nap of savory meal and a yoghurt

Breastfeed top up at around 5.30

Bottle of formula (8oz) at 7-7.30 and to bed (now sleeping through 12hours plus)

Like everyone else has said, sound absolutely fine!!!

Ella won't drink 1st thing in the morning and even though she wakes up any time from 6, she won't eat breakfast till 9ish - like her dad... She has milk with her breakfast. Then she won't touch anything else till lunch at 1, and I'm trying to give her juice with that. She has Milk about 4pm, then tea at 5pm then her big milk drink of about 9-10oz at 7ish, and a dream feed at about 10.30.

So keep it up - sounds like you're doing just fine!!!

Thanks everyone.

I think the problem was the more I read the more I started to think that Cerys wasn't going to give up her milk with the meals because I was giving her a bottle straight after the solids.  So I was worrying that maybe I had tackled things wrong.

I have started recently to give her the solids and then try to break it up a bit by doing something else... even something little like feeding the dog etc before giving her the bottle.  That way I am hoping the bottle doesn't become a habit for her.

She def likes her food though she always finishes whatever I give her including the milk, have never known her to turn anything away... the only problem being I'm sure you can imagine what happens when she over eats so I may have to watch that slightly.  Biggest problem is that I don't know what her limit is... might have to buy some bigger bowls LOL

I do feel a lot better about it all now though.
