OK, poss TMI, but would like opinions.

Following Ella's antibiotics, she got thrush -  a bright red rash on her lady bits. So the doc prescribed a canisten hydro cortisone cream, which I was told I could use for a max of 10 days. Which I have, but its not gone. Its a lot better, but not gone...

I've used the cream 3 times a day and have let her roll around without a nappy each time for between half and hour and an hour. I've been using cotton wool and water when changing her and putting sudocream on all changes except when using the canestan. I've used a wipe when its been a messy nappy, then washed her with cotton wool and water - I use the huggies pure wipes when I use wipes. I've also been changing her nappy a lot more regularly than I normally would.

On one hand, I don't want to leave it, but on the other, it is a lot better. I'm not sure whether to take her back to the docs.... again... Mind you, he'll prob be missing us cos we've only been 5 times in the last 4 weeks.....

Has anyone any experience with this? I don't think its bothering her, but then again when I take her nappy off, she scratches herself on her tummy. Whether thats cos she can, or cos her bits itch and she can't co-ordinate or reach I don't know...

Help, anyone?

The 10days only would be because of the steroid in the cream it can thin the skin if used for to long.  Also as you will know if you have ever used canisten cream yourself it can burn a bit and therefore irritate the skin more.

Try using fresh cultured plain yoghurt.  It works the same in killing the thrush and cools the skin therefore stopping the itching and burning.  Slap it on every nappy change it can't harm Ellas skin at all.

Also make sure you are not using bubble bath even baby bath as the perfume irritates the skin.

Dizie not sure the answer reguarding the thrush side of things cos ellen has not suffered from it but like ella when i change her nappy she scratches her tummy too.  I have to pull her vest down over her belly because she really does it hard.

Big hugs to ella i hope she gets better soon x

aww diz

All my girls have suffered from this at some time or another.

Always seems worse when teething although the docs will always tell u theres no connection

It flares up that bad, its like open weepy sores.

I just use the cortisone cream thin and completely rubbed in and it seems to sort itself out.

You are doing all you can hun, its a horrible thing for them, good idea from mumsam, I will try that too!

Hope little lady gets better soon

luv

Thanks all! I tried the yoghurt, and it really did take the redness out of it.....but in time honoured Mears tradition, she then decided that she'd have explosive nappies and TMI her poo is so grim, its affected her thrush again and its really red and angry now!!!

So, back to the docs tomorrow.....again....

Ooo no Vix, not heard of that before!!!

Well, after a farcical phone conversation with our surgery this morning, I ended up going down to the docs and waiting an hour and a half to see someone.. grrrrrrrr

We now have another cream, Miconazole, which again is 3 times a day, roll around and wee on the floor time!! LOL! She's very good at that now and no matter what I put on the floor, she lifts it to wee on the floor!!

The explosive poos are continuing and believe me, are not good if she's not got a nappy on.....

Will see what happens...

This should do it. If its not gone in 2 weeks, back we go and who knows what will happen then...

Well, here we are again...

Cream no 2 was working just fine, and it had very very nearly gone........and then today, its gone red again and has little red blotches on....

Its not spread anywhere else, I've checked her over thoroughly, which incidentally she found hillarious.. but sure enough, its bright red again.

Its her 7-10 month check tomorrow so am going to mention it to the HV and ask if a doc can look at it there and then. Its stupid cos its been there for nearly a month now! Ok, she's only had treatment for it for 2 and a bit weeks, but I just don't know what else I can do.

Her 1st nappy of the day is still fairly explosive and runny as anything, so thats not helping, but I'm changing her the min it happens. And I'm changing her throughout the day a lot more than I used to - possibly too often!! I'm only using water and cotton wool to clean her... grrr

Will see what they say tomorrow...
