I know that its OK to use cows milk in lo's diet, as long as its not the main drink and that you can use semi-skimmed in cooking... but...

Can you use semi-skimmed milk on cereal? Ella has now started to drink her follow on milk when she wakes, and so I was not going to use the cow and gate with her breakfast. I'm trying her on weetabix, and wondered if it would be OK with semi-skimmed milk? Its an innocent question, I'll happily buy full fat, but just wondered that as I'm not counting it towards her milk intake for the day, is it OK to be semi?

Will you be heating the milk?  Cows milk should only been given heated until they are a year old.  You should use full fat milk but if it's just for breakfast it won't do any harm and as you aren't counting it towards her milk intake.  You would be better off sticking to formula milk until a year though but if you really don't want to and you are going to heat the milk (it breaks down the protiens therefore making it easier to digest) it's not a big issue.

If I make a cheese sauce I use semi-skimmed and Ollie has it, he's still alive.  Oh and Fran has never had cows milk in her life and she is still alive too.

I use full fat milk in all of edwards food including his cereal. I didnt realise you were only supposed to use it heated but he seems finw with it.

I have used semi skimmed when I've run out of full fat before.

Our house is ridiculous as I have full fat for Edward, Semi skimmed for coffees and dp had skimmed on his cereal. One full fridge.

Cool - thanks all, and Sam, I'm very pleased to hear that your kids are still alive!!!

If I've made cheese sauce for us its been with semi, and Ella's had some. When I cooked a batch of cauli cheese just for her, I used full fat.

I was gonna heat it up cos she seems to prefer her breakfast warm, but I think I'll stick with the formula for the mo.

will see what she thinks of weetabix.... mmmm, could be interesting....

I use full fat with Ellie and Ethan, don't heat it though, never have - had never heard about heating it before.  She has full fat milk on her weetabix cos she loves her first bottle and drains it all.  She loves weetabix and ready brek too.
