Just a quick question.

I have been giving Cerys the Heinz creamy oat porridge which she loves, but because she is eating so much of it in one go it's getting quite expensive, one box is only just lasting 2 days.  I know that she can have ready brek but am sure that I read somewhere she shouldn't have it everyday.

What about just the plain normal porridge oats?  Can I give these to Cerys, she's just over 7 months now.

Normal Porridge or Ready Brek is fine if Cerys can handle the lumps.  I am having a similar problem with Ollie at the moment as he loves the baby porridge but does not like weetabix, Ready Brek or normal Porridge, I was only trying to think of something else I could try him on for breakfast today.  He likes toast but does not eat enough to qualify it as a meal.

Hi,

Yes it's fine to give normal porridge, it's just before 6mths you can't. I'm going to start making porridge for Niamh now that she is 6mths and mix in different fruit for a change...defo much cheaper!!

mumsam, What about making your own fruit museli or scrambled eggs, french toast, fruity yoghurt, pancakes..if you can be bothered to make it yourself!! can't think of anything else at the mo!

x

Ethan always used to love yoghurt and banana for his breakfast (mixed together in a bowl) -still has it some mornings followed off by toast. Ellie won't eat this though - she can not stand banana's. She does however love ready brek and weetabix.

Can I just ask of those who've given lo weetabix, did you introduce it gradually or just offer it on its own with milk?

I tried giving ella half a weetabix, and she hated it. Poss cos I usually give her baby cereal with fruit so its prob sweeter, but my HV suggested adding some weetabix to her breakfast and building it up to just weetabix. Any one tried this?

Also, did you use breast/formula milk or cows milk?

With Ellie I just tried it one morning and she took to it. At first i used her formula (only for 1st few times) then some mornings I used her fromula and cows milk, more often now I use whole milk warmed up slightly so its not too cold for her.  I absolutely hate weetabix though and the look of it makes me feel sick while I'm feeding her - yuk!

I don't think Ethan liked it at first but I just kept trying and he did eventually take to it.

I will try to give Cerys normal porridge then.  I can't seem to feed her enough at the moment she loves her food.  Not that I'm complaining at all it makes her easy to feed, i haven't found anything she doesn't like yet.

I'll give the weetabix a try as well.

The only problem I am having is if I try to give Cerys finger food although she used to hold it herself and eat it she is refusing to now and will only eat it if it's held for her... perhaps this should be a separate topic but has anyone any suggestions or will she just start holding it herself again eventually?

if u dont hold it for her chick and just leave it on her tray she will go back to holding it. although saying that joshua really can not stand finger foods and he will only sit and eat properly if he has a knife and fork but has done this from being 6 months or so!!! he does pick foods up such as toast and did then but just not as a preferred method of eating.

and as for the weetabix joshua just took to it straight away at first i gave it him with warm formula milk but then went on to give it him with warm cows milk, my hv said this was ok to do! i was naughty and gave joshua chocolate ready break..he liked it as a special treat lol (so does aimee but dont tell jen lol)

I'll give it another go when the in-laws go then.  At the moment all she seems to do if I leave it for her to pick up is scream at it and have a temper tantrum then throws it all on the floor.  If I hold it she moves her head towards it but keeps her hands in the air well away from it... it's very strange.  Will def try again though, thank you.
