OK this may be a silly question but my MIL is staying at the moment and she decided yesterday to buy some Jelly and she made it today.  She said she thought Cerys could have some... it's not a sugar free one or anything and I know this sounds really silly but can we give Jelly to a 7 month baby?

I have said to my MIL that Cerys could probably try one spoon as I'm not sure about how happy I am with her eating Jelly at this age (OK maybe now I am sounding a bit silly, it's probably just because I wasn't asked my opinion first the Jelly was just brought and made) but everything my MIL suggests she would like to Cerys to try I keep putting my foot down and saying no to.  Sorry to rant in this thread and for such a simple question as well.

Hey - no need to apologise!!!

I made some Jelly for Ella as she wasn't drinking enough, and theres so much water in jelly! It was a sugar free one though. That said, a spoonfull won't hurt like you say.

Ella wasn't so sure about it I have to say!!

I think a small spoon would be fine - hope she likes it!!!

There is no real nutritional value in jelly but equally it won't hurt her either.  As Wizie says it's mostly water and a good way of trying to get them to take fluids if they are poorly as the sugar gives them some energy then too.

Thank you for your help.  Like I said I probably wouldn't do but I can't be bothered to argue with MIL anymore it seems to be with everything I do and they are only here until Wednesday so if it's not going to cause her any problems then I will let her try it.

It's tea that I have a big issue with MIL seems so keen for CJ to start having tea and I have put my foot down so she tried to talk DH round to the idea the other day when he was here.  I don't mind the advice but I wish they would appreciate that you don't always want to take it.

aww hun, aimee has never had jelly but if i made it i'd try to give it to her, and try being the word.  As chris said most babies wont eat it anyway, they just seem to squirm it around thier mouth and spit it back out.  My 2yr old still makes funny faces when she eats it.  Its all trial and error with children, and the fact that it isn't sugar free shouldn't cause any harm.

OK... am beginning to think I have a strange little girl.  I gave Cerys a small amount of Jelly and had the camera ready for the funny face.  I didn't get a funny face just a big wide open mouth ready for the next mouthful... I let her have about half a desert spoonful.  Doesn't sound much but it was about 4 spoons of her spoon.  She loved it and had a bit of a tantrum when there was non left.  I haven't found anything she doesn't like yet!!!  She loves her food and I can't seem to feed her enough.

Ollie is the same he will eat anything!  Much easier that way than the other, Fran would only eat pasta and yoghurts as a baby very boring diet.

Lewis had trifle on christmas day and ate the lot!!  I let him try things in moderation, it gets him used to eating our foods.  I would also be a bit wary of giving him tea.

Nicki I really do sympathise with you for having an interfering mil - mine is the same, she went on and on about giving him water in between his bottles - and I got sick of telling her that he wouldnt drink it - so in the end I just let her try and sure enough, lewis wouldnt drink it.

She also seems keen on putting Lewis in his cot for a couple of hours during the day - even if he isnt sleeping - which I disagree with unless I am upstairs doing housework or something, so again, she tried that and he screamed the place down.  I too wish she would respect my wishes and let me get on with raising my son the way I feel is best. Grrrrr - rant over!!!!
