My little girl seems to eat a heck of alot. She has 5 or 6oz every 2 -21/2 hours.

Could this be a sign she is nearly ready for food. She is 12 weeks.

The World Health Council say that the earliest a baby should start to be weaned is 16 weeks. The reason for this is that their kidneys are not able to handle the job of cleaning out impurities in food before this time.

Take a look at this, might help.

I weaned my lo at 16 weeks. He was breastfeeding every 2 hours during the day and every hour at night. My HV said he was ready to be weaned.

It was the worst thing I ever did! I fought to get solids inside him and it took me til 6 months to get him eating properly. I believe if I had waited it would have been easier.

Then again I know lots of mums on here weaned early very successfully.

How long has she been feeding that frequently?

Have you tried Hungry Baby Formula?

I weaned euan from about 12 weeks, he wanted bottle after bottle, one
about every half hour! He's been much happier since and has 3 meals a
day, although hes fusy and only eats sweet stuff! but i only did this as a
last resort, hungry baby formula made no diffrence, he was on it at
three weeks!

is it a growth spurt perhaps?  I would try hungry baby formula first, 12 weeks seems very young to me...

With my first ds he was a big baby 8lb14oz born and by 11wks he was having 9oz of hungry baby formula every 2hrs so i decided to start him on a little bit of baby rice once a day and by the time he was 16 weeks he was having 3 meals plus pudding and still all his bottles, hes nearly 4 now and still a big boy hes not fat just very tall

With DS2 he was about 20weeks when he first had solids and that was only because he has a dilated Kidney and we couldnt start to give him solids before then,

You yourself will have a rough idea when shes ready to start but you have to remember not to get to carried away when it comes to trying out all different kinds of foods etc

good Luck

i weaned my first son at 15 weeks and tom at around 14.5 weeks. both were breastfed (max up to 7 months and tom up to 3 months)

i personally think 12 weeks is a tad young to start weaning and i would suggest (as someone already has) that you try a hungry formula

a friend of mine started weaning her baby at 12 weeks but she only gave him very sloppy mashed potatoe mixed with breast milk.  she didnt add anything else.  if youre still concerned about how hungry your lo seems then speak to your hv for further advice.

Only u know wots right for ur lo

I weaned Ryan at 11 weeks & hes been fine, my brother was also on solids at 8 weeks

Its all trial & error, mix up some baby rice & offer her some on the tip of a spoon, she'll soon let u know if shes ready (bear in mind that alot of los dont like baby rice tho)

i tried for 3 days with rice but ryan was not happy then on the 4th day i mixed up 1/4 rusk with his milk & he loved it - i kept him on only rusk until he was 15 weeks & then introduced pureed veg

Leah is on Ciw and Gate Plus which is for hungrier babies. She has been eating like this for a few weeks. I asked the health vistor yesterday and she said its nothing to worry about she isnt over weight is probably just a growth sprut.

She said its most probably Leah sleeps though the night that she demands more during they day. She sleeps from 12am till 9am.

Leah is now finishing 5oz bottles and wanting more every time. Last night she finished a 6oz bottle screamed for more. I bath her and gave her a bottle and she had another 3oz.

Thanks ladies

Kaz
