rofl @ Vix, I agree I think it's quite a shock at first when your milk squirts in every direction and at full force.

I think the biggest thing is not to beat yourself up over how long you are going to feed or not feed by the breast.  I really believe you have to do what ever is best for you and baby and as long as both of you are happy and not hungry or uncomfortable however you feed your baby is great.

Rest, drink and a supportive partner I think go along way to helping breastfeed for longer.  Keeping in focus it does get easier after the first 6wks and then again after the first 3mnths.  I think you have to really set aside at least the first 3mnths to lack of sleep and lots of feeding.  Try planning in a few nice days too, I found with Ollie he fed less on the days we went out as he had other things to occupy his mind other than my boobs.

I know we have some current new breastfeeding mums and some planning to try when they give birth so I thought I'd bump this up for them and for anyone else to add some more tips!

Don't listen to other people who tell you to put baby onto formula or wean early if you want to exclusively bf. It doesn't matter how much wt babies put on as long as they're not losing loads. The wt charts are mainly based on bottle fed babies, so try not to pay too much attention to them!

Bf lying down at night is great way to make sure you both get plenty of rest! Just pack baby round with pillows if you're frightened of them falling out.

Try not to let other people put you off of bf in public. Don't be bullied into feeding 'out of sight' in a loo or other room, unless you want to. Its the most natural thing to do, be proud that you are!
