Just seen a trailer for a programme thats on Weds 9pm, Channel 4.

It is called Extraordinary Breatfeeding and is about women who choose to breastfeed their children for longer than usual...one woman was still breastfeeding her child at 7 years old

I think it's wrong to breat feed a 7 year old.  Think of the therepy they're going to need when they get older!

I believe in breast feeding your child, not bloomin when their in school!!

And for the mums who just whap their baps out like "I don't care" I really don't like them.  I believe in breast feeding in public, not if the totally make a huge thing about it though.  Discreet is best.

Pamela Stephenson breastfeed her son until he was 9 yrs old I think he was.

Why should someone be condemned for doing what they feel is best for their child, regardless of what anyone else feels about it.

As for breastfeeding in public I feed Ollie in public and did my daughter.

The thing is though that I wonder whether these women think that it is best for their child, or are they doing it for themselves - I actually feel sorry for the children because they think that it is normal but it makes me wonder how they will feel when they are older and they realise that not everyone was breastfed up to this age, I know I wouldn't like it personally...

As for breastfeeding in public, I didn't like doing it, I used to go to the car if I could but that is because I am v shy and wouldn't want people looking at me - but I do think that women should just whap their baps out wherever they want if they feel comfortable doing so.. feeding your baby is what boobs are there for!

Am intrigued by this programme, no doubt it will provoke a lot of discussion...!

I dont feel at all uncomfortable with someone breastfeeding it public after all it is natural i would have if i could have breastfed, it does make dp abit uncomfortable but i think most men react that way anyway.

i dont personally agree with breastfeeding at the age of 7 but its each to their own i read abit about this prog in a tv mag, and the daughter adores it, as did her sister apparently she says it was the sweetest most gorgeous thing she has ever tasted in her life i think she is 11 now

i dont see a need for a 7 yo to still be breast fed, but if that is what the child & mother are happy and comfortable with who are we to judge?

I think that women that breast feed their children after the 'norm' are doing it more for themselves than for the child as a fear of separation.  A child doesnt need breast feeding at the age of 8 or 9 years as they manage perfectaly well at school without it (unless mum expresses into their flask for their childs packed lunch lol), but i also respect the the way each parent decides to raise their own children because there is no 'normal' or 'right' or 'wrong' way to raise children.

My sister in law came round today and told me that this programme was on - called Extreeme Breastfeeding! I was thinking of women feeding on surfboards or whilst climbing mountains!!!

I'm not sure what I think about breastfeeding a 7 year old. My initial thought is ewewewew but then, if mother and child are happy with it, then like Rin says, who are we to judge? Will have to give that some more thought and watch the prog.

As for feeding in public, I feel very strongly about this and I really do think that women should be able to feed their child in public if they want to. I only breastfed Ella for a few weeks and only went out to a public place once in that time. I wasn't very good at getting the boobs out without exposing myself and my biggest fear was that I'd squirt someone!! So I wimped out and sat in the car... My sis was an absolute expert and managed to feed all 3 of hers very comfortably anywhere. I went for lunch with a friend once and she was feeding her ds, and the waitress asked her to stop. She was so embaressed, but I was fuming!!! I had the manager out and asked people at nearby tables if they minded, and not 1 did. I was furious!!

If someone was to stand up, whip their top off and then unleash their breasts and shout "look at my norks" before feeding their child, then yes, perhaps I'd have an issue with that...Otherwise, I really think that mothers should be able to breastfeed wherever they want... except for when driving....

God Diz thats terrible, but quite common for ppl to be told they cannot brestfeed in certain places, its  complete and utter crap tho as the thing which is as natural as giving birth is frowned upon

i'd have given the waitress a bloody slap
