I was curious what peoples views are on the smoking ban.

I am an ex-smoker. I quit when I discovered I was pregnant with Edward. My partner is still a smoker but mainly only down the pub. We go out alot to the pub as we meet my parents there and friends. I will find it much nicer taking Edward and not having to keep moving to avoid the smoke. DP says it was inevitable and if he cant smoke he wont - simple.

Do you think the government was right to ban smoking completely in public places?

Well even though i am a smoker I think its a good thing as I am convinced it will help me stop altogether

I am not really smoking as much these days during the week but find if I go out at the weekend for a drink I am smoking

So to go out and not be able to smoke in a pub will be a big help for me as I don't much fancy standing outside a pub all glammed up smoking a fag in the rain!!

So I'll say yes its a good thing but we'll see what happens when it comes in up here and its put to the test!!! I may change my mind lol

I think it is a good thing - we went to dublin a few months ago and it is smoke-free there and it was fab - we didn't stink the next day!  Even the smokers that were with us thought it was a good idea and it was bloomin FREEZING and they had to go outside - but they certainly didn't smoke as much as usual..

apparently it is great for single people too, quite a few romances have started in the smoking zones underneath the heaters because people just start chatting to each other because they're not with all their friends...!

Yes yes yes!! 

It is a filthy disgusting habit that shouldn't be inflicted on those that do not smoke.  Apparently, Australia has been a 'non-smoking in public places' culture for a while and it works.

Not sure how the Government will enforce a no smoking ban in pubs and nightclubs though.

Ok let the goverment stop smoking in public places. if its so bad they why dont they just ban fags all together..oh but they cant as they make too much money from us stupid smokers.

i think smoking is anti-social esp in places where others are eating

i've stopped going to my local altogether-because it stinks!

i wouldn't mind a seperate room-but they always end up smokey too.

i think its one of the better things to happen-dh agrees, he's an ex smoker

As a smoker I'm digusted!  I am a considerate one, and won't smoke even in my own house when I have non smokers here to a point! 

There are more than enough places to go where you can't smoke, and it's not like I go anywhere anyway! But it's nice to go to the pub and have a ciggy with a drink!

I agree with Helen though the government ought to ban smoking altogether as that is exactlyhow it's going but they get a huge chunk, so all you non smokers if they stop too many smokers from smoking you WILL be paying more income tax!  Where else are they gonna get the revenue from!

I am a non-smoker but i dont think it was right to ban it in public places.  It's a public place and smokers are still members of the public.  Non-smokers go on about how there rights as non-smokers they are forced to breathe in someone else's smoke if they are close to them, but what about the smokers right to smoke? If someone near me is swearing and i dont like it i move away so y not just move away if someone is smoking?  Some peoples reply to that would be 'why should i move' ok fine but why should the other person stop smoking instead?

My husband is a smoker and smokes outside the house and if we are out having a meal he will go elsewhere to smoke so he is not near me or the kiddies.

i think you missed the point troody

smoking can kill (those who smoke and those who are passive) and carries on the air

swearing doesnt kill-i agree its equally offensive though-no offence intended
