I feel like such a bad Mum. Asha has nappy rash.

She has had the runs for over two days now (I know I should take her to the doctor but we are going first thing tomorrow morning).

I thought it was the change to soya formula that was causing the runs so changed her back to sma white (over two days ago) and she still has it. She never does a dirty nappy during the night and has been for past 3 nights. She is also on an antibiotic and an inhalor so now am presuming the antibiotic has maybe caused the runs (so have not given her any today). When I think about it she has been spitting most of the antibiotic back out so not sure if she has been getting enough anyhow to cause the runs.

Does anyone know if the inhalor can cause the runs?

Anyhow point of this post is

Can anyone suggest good creams for nappy rash? I know there was a post already about this but cannot find it now. I have been using sudocream but is there anything else. Thanks

I use a cream called cavilon you can order it online but not sure if you can buy it in the shops, but it is a little expensive but very good for nappy rash, it also comes in a spray bottle for easier application it last 48 hours on the skin after application, giving the skin time to heal without more wettness making it worse. Also fresh air is great for this, put down a wet mat and let them roll around then throw it away when finished.

Antibiotics can cause diarrohea, but not sure about inhalers, ask your hv they might know, hope all is well soon.

What antibiotic is she on? Ella had a similar reaction to Eurethamycin (Sp?) and it was horrendous..

In inhaler shouldn't cause that reaction - I would say its the anti b... I droped Ella's dose down to half and gave it her less often, and that way she was still getting some, but it wasn't upseting her as much.

Its worth getting the rash checked as sometimes antibiotics can cause thrush - Ella's had it a few times. If it is, the doc will give you a cream to use on it. If it is, put the cream on under the sudocrem as the sudocrem will stop the wee washing it off!

In the meantime, don't use soap in her bath - just water. Try and let her have some time without her nappy to let the air get to it and give her a big hug from me and Ella! xxx

Thanks ladies. Could not remember name of cream.

Dizie, you are right. It is Erythromycin (only know correct spelling cause I copied it from bottle in front of me , )she has had amoxicillin before and always been fine so I just presumed runs and rash was from the soya formula. Bit mad now as have changed her back to normal formula and don't want to keep changing her. I also had not thought thrush (not sure why as I know antib can cause this). Will show gp tomorrow. She asked to see her in a weeks time after prescribing all of above so the week is tomorrow. She also has a tooth  coming through but previous teeth have been fine. I suppose it is not helping. Wee soul.

Thanks again ladies. If it gets much worse I will get above creams. I have been doing the fresh air things since yesterday and no wipes or soaps.

Bepanthen is brilliant. Anytime Niamh has had a rash I've used that and it's cleared it up in know time. I use it as a barrier all the time too. If it's worse than a normal nappy rash where is has those red sore looking bumps (thrush) then Canestan Nappy rash cream is really good.

Hope she is better soon.

Collie, is it the 125mg/5mg mix by any chance? If so, thats what Ella had. She's had amoxil and been fine and she's had 100mg/5mg Erythromycin before and been fine, but this last lot really affected her badly. She was being sick as well, it was horrid. I can't have Erythromycin as I had a really bad reaction to it once, but as she was fine on the lower concentration, the doc thought she would be OK with this.

If its any help, her guts did sort out within a few days of stopping it. Its definately worth getting her checked out though, particularly if the rash is thrush. The 1st time Ella had thrush she had it for a month as I didn't get it sorted quick enough - how bad did I feel...

The 2nd time she had it, i got the cream, and it went within 2 days!

Dizie, it is the 125mg/5ml.  It was good though that you were able to warn me (not so good that poor Ella had to suffer ), don't worry we always blame ourselves and as I said I never thought she could have thrush so I wouldn't have known either.

Yesterday was suppose to be her last day on it but I never gave her any and the diarohea (sp) has nearly went away (tmi).

If my gp ever prescribes her antib again I will be demanding amoxicillin.
